18 SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | APRIL 2023 By Theresa Rossetti, Resident Personally, I'm not much of a game player. Cards, board games, puzzles – they're not for me. I tolerate Bunco for the socialization and Charades because our group is simply hilarious. Recently, sitting around my son's living room after dinner (wine glass in hand), I was coaxed into a game with no name. The idea is very simple. Each person chooses a music video on YouTube to be played to the delight, horror, or chagrin of the others. Playing with assorted ages is best since taste in music varies greatly as we all know. Snarky comments are not only welcomed but required, talking over the music mandatory. To start us off, Gen-X son #2 chose a video titled Vitas – The 7th Element. It starts off okay, not my thing, but okay. But wait till the second and third "verses" to get to the "good" part. After we stopped laughing, around we went. A Gen-X son #1 chose something from Weird Al, I think. I countered with I Don't Care Anymore by Phil Collins. Truth be told this song was in permanent rotation as a stress reliever during my working days. When the round started again, we were "blessed" with a parody video of Vitas' one, Singing in Public – Vitas – Know Your Meme, by a guy singing the same song in random public places, including both a Subway (the sandwich) place and a New York City subway station. By that time, we were laughing so hard we had to take a break before the next round started. If you think about it there are some great videos, serious ones (classic Elvis or Beatles comes to mind) and silly ones (anything from Lawrence Welk, American Bandstand or Hullabaloo) that would be great fun to share with different generations. The kids will show us a thing or two to get us out of our comfort zone, but they might be surprised by some of the music we loved growing up! By, Tim Jahns, Resident A beginning Tai Chi class will be starting this spring with an introductory session on Saturday, March 11 at 3 pm in the Stonecreek Room at The Lodge. No experience is required to join the class. Tai Chi Chuan was originally developed for both self-defense and health. This class presents a slow-motion, meditative practice with many benefits for health, including improved focus, balance, energy, self-awareness, and calming. Through low-impact movements, breathing, and concentration, this traditional Chinese exercise can enhance your energy and clarity. Instructors Tim Jahns and Robert Hanneman will present a class overview and invite participation. The ongoing class will meet weekly and is a progressive training rather than a drop-in program. The regular day and time schedule is to be determined after the introductory class. The class consists of warm-ups and stretching, training in the Yang-style Tai Chi form, and Chi Gung practice that combines relaxation and breathing to increase vital energy. Instructor Tim Jahns has taught Tai Chi for Claremont Colleges, the City of Irvine, and other institutions. Call (951) 305-6556 for more information. Beginning Tai Chi Class Games People Play
