Lifestyle Report By Teri Collett Mailbox Clusters In Our Community By Linda Weiss, Board Member I would like to clarify some of the responsibilities of safety between the Board of Directors and the residents. With the current amount of crime, in all communities rising in the world around us, it is important to know what we as residents need to do to protect ourselves. We need to know what the HOA is responsible to keep safe and what we individually need to do for ourselves. At this time, let's talk about the HOA and the Board of Directors. The BOD is responsible for the financial stability, the following of the CC&R's and to keep the common areas of the HOA safe and repaired. The common areas are the entrances, Lodge, parkinglLots, back patio, all sports courts, the Paseo and both North and South Parks. I would like to make it clear that the mailbox clusters are the responsibility of the HOA to replace if the cluster is stolen or damaged. The locks are not the responsibility of the HOA but rather the United States Postal Service. If your mailbox is vandalized, and the locks are broken, you need to notify the Police Department, as it is a federal offence to steal mail. You also need to notify the Post Office as the Post Office has the responsibility to replace the broken locks. As we have had mailboxes stolen in the past, the Board has purchased locking lug nuts to be used to replace the current nuts that were originally used in attaching the mailboxes to the concrete. These locking lug nuts will make it harder to remove the existing nuts and steal the entire cluster box. The BOD is also looking into ways to add additional security to vulnerable areas. I would also like to mention that there are ways that we can help ourselves. If we as residents are diligent in picking up our mail shortly after it has been delivered, the thieves will soon get tired of risking being caught when breaking into empty mailboxes time after time. It is time to be responsible for our own behavior. Each and every one of us can help resolve this problem. Keep an eye out in the future for articles on how to protect your home and personal property. Community Updates By Tyler Barber, Property Services Manager After a long and tedious wait, the indoor spa has been repaired. You may now enjoy a rest in the lovely, heated waters. There is not much to follow up, but there are a few small things that needed attending to. A single, little chandelier light bulb on the lobby chandeliers was replaced. The billiards shade was put back up, as it had fallen out of its base. Lastly, the fire alarm monitoring system had a small kink worked out and now is fully functional.
