Lifestyle Report By Teri Collett Street Safety By Linda Weiss, Board Member Do you feel safe walking in our neighborhood? I started to feel safe when we had the "Caution Crossing Signs" installed at Paseo Famosa by the crossing area near the Paseo. I'm sorry to say, I don't feel safe anymore. Since I have expanded my walking to include the streets throughout the entire community, not just the Paseo, I have discovered that it's not safe to cross any street in our neighborhood without paying close attention to oncoming or passing traffic. I have witnessed that most cars in our neighborhood are traveling way above the speed limit, which is 25 mph by the way. I have seen rolling stops or no stops at all at stop signs. I have had people stop for me to cross the street however, they continue on their way before I'm completely on the opposite sidewalk. Have you considered how you would feel if you were speeding down one of our streets and hit a resident, or their beloved dog, while they were out enjoying our beautiful community? I know there has been a lot of talk about how much traffic we will have once these new residential developments on each side of us are completed. However, there is not much we can do about how other people drive. But, if we can't drive within our own community with the safety of our walking residents in mind, how can we expect total strangers too? We can by setting an example by following all the traffic and safety rules like someone's life depends on it. It just may. If you have a tendency to forget some of the important things, I know I do, cut out this sign above and tape it to the dashboard in your car. Who knows, all those outsiders traveling through our community might just get tired driving behind all us old folks and go around our community. Wouldn't that be wonderful? Community Updates By Tyler Barber, Property Services Manager The unlucky string of weather (rain) has delayed many outdoor projects. The courts are again on the wait list, and any pergola and wrought iron work is waiting for a lucky string of weather (no rain). The thermostats in the Mountain View Lodge are being changed to 70°, per the Board policy for thermostat regulation. Please dress accordingly. The yellow paint color for the bocce ball court lines was incorrect, resulting in another painting delay. Violations: Opened – 20 / Closed - 8
