16 SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | MAY 2023 By Brad Hyman, Resident Did you know that since 1960, Hemet has been the home of the Ramona Hillside Playhouse, a beautiful and intimate venue for live theater productions? Did you know that the RHP is a non- profit organization run by volunteers as a home for actors, directors, playwrights, set designers, costumers, etc. to develop their crafts and trades? Did you know that at the Playhouse, you can enjoy wonderful dramas and comedies, both classics and originals, in a comfortable setting at very reasonable prices ($15-$20)? The Ramona Hillside Players put on five plays per season, from September through May. The final play of the current season will be e Girl In e Picture, an original by Michael Tennant, the talented local impresario who many of us know from his "Play With Your Food" dinner theater productions. It is guaranteed to be an exciting evening (or afternoon) at the Playhouse: "A man returns to his grandmother's home in the country after her passing. Even out in the distant countryside, this house has a reputation of being highly unusual, perhaps haunted. This house has seen many wonderful days, and yet has unleashed one terrible secret. Lives are now at stake." Show dates and times for this world premiere of e Girl In e Picture will be May 12 and 19 at 7:30 pm and May 14, 20 and 21 at 2:30 pm. The Playhouse is air conditioned and has 97 very comfortable seats. Coffee and cookies are provided during intermission. The Ramona Hillside Playhouse is located on the grounds of the Ramona Bowl at 27402 Ramona Bowl Road, Hemet 92544. Tickets are available online at https:// ramonahillsideplayers.org/tickets/. For theater information, call (951) 658- 5300. Did You Know… There is Fun in Hemet?! By Carl Reed, Resident In early March, I sent out a Community Blast invitation to anyone wishing to attend the Firearms Safety and Sporting Group meeting. We had four guest officers from the Hemet Police Department. They spoke on how we can lawfully protect ourselves during a home invasion. They also explained the laws regarding carrying and transporting a firearm. When it comes to protecting your home, they said, be sure to have your windows and doors locked at all times. If a suspect has entered your home illegally to harm you or your family, try to get away safely without the use of force whenever possible. According to California Penal Code 198.5: Any person using force intended or likely to cause death or great bodily injury (meaning a significant or substantial physical injury) within his or her residence shall be presumed to have held a reasonable fear of imminent peril of death or great bodily injury to self, family or a member of the household when that force is used against another person, not a member of the family or household, who unlawfully and forcibly enters or has unlawfully and forcibly entered the residence and the person using the force knew or had reason to believe that an unlawful and forcible entry occurred. If there is no escape, you are allowed to defend your family using any force necessary but be prepared to explain why you felt you needed to do so. A thorough criminal investigation will be done on you and the intruder. Even if there are no criminal charges filed, there is still a possibility that a civil lawsuit could be filed against you. Some residents attending the meeting were also asking about a Concealed Carry Permit for a handgun. There is an application available through the city, but you will have to find your own third party to conduct the class and qualifying. The city website is https://hernetpd. com/ccw-permits. I have tried using this website, but, found it extremely difficult to navigate. The Sherriff 's website is very straight forward and easy to use, their website is https://riversideca.permitium.com/ccw-start. We had a great turn-out of residents and all were encouraged to ask questions. I think that the event was a great success. Next month's meeting of the FSSG it will be held on May 30 at 12 noon. Everyone is welcome. HOME SAFETY Our thanks to Cindy Boeing, Hemet resident, for the Playhouse photo
