Jack & Jill By Dennis Murphy, 951-461-0457 Ladies Golf By Judy Lebovitz, 951-461-0065 The March tournament provided the roster of golfers with weather that we could only have dreamed of. While temperatures were a little nippy at the 8am Tee Time, layers of clothing began to be placed in our carts' storage racks in just three short holes. Fifty-two players consisting of 13 foursomes were provided competition in the best blue skies and temperatures possible in this "RANDOM DRAW" competition. Play is always spirited, with a fair amount of fun in this event. The first-place position was handily maintained by over three strokes, with 2nd to 4th places separated by barely one-half of a stroke. This is when a team can remember that one putt that evaded all four team members. Now that was tight. When the score cards were turned in and the tournament over, the following posted winning positions for the contest: Winning Teams 1st: 43.388, Malcolm Grant, Sherry Roberts, Allen Roberts and Sue Jordan 2nd: 46.039, John Comeau, Soky Hansen, Rich Brown and Laurie Freres 3rd: 46.240, Jerry and Pat Caldera, Joe Jaramillo and Barbara Crosdale 4th: 46.547,George Herrera, Vicky Cornell, Henry Wurangian and Sharon Smith Closest to the Pin #5: Women, Sharon Smith – 10'10" / Men, Jerry Caldera – 5'3 ½" #15: Women, Susan Connelly– 19'6" / Men, Ed King – 19'8" #16: Team #11 Dave Funston, Denise Sturm, Gary Wilson and Lisa Schrader – 9'8" The Darwin Award went unclaimed this month as "my sources" were unable to label a Darwin recipient. Our next contest is set for Thursday, May 11, and it will be our Regular Scramble event. As with all Jack and Jill events, you DO NOT have to be a member of either the Men's or Women's Golf Clubs to play. Just pick up your sticks and join us for the fun and friendly competition. See ya on the links! Spring is finally here (I think!). Wow, the weather we are having. I heard we haven't had this kind of weather in almost a hundred years. Anyway, we are back playing and had a great golfing day followed by our annual pizza luncheon with an open bar, with two of the men's club members serving drinks. We celebrated a special 94th birthday for Barbara Keen with a delicious cake. It was so nice seeing lots of our associates attending this luncheon. Ringer prizes were awarded for the first quarter and a lot of fun was had by everyone. We play every Tuesday at 8 am for April, May and June. We also meet once a month for our luncheon and meeting after golf. If you are interested in joining or want to know more about us, please contact our membership chair, Peggy Clendenen at 951-696-2169. Hope to see you on the course. Keep well, dry, warm and safe! 32 | THE COLONY NEWS | MAY 2023 |
