| THE COLONY NEWS | MAY 2023 | 29 | THE COLONY NEWS | MAY 2023 | 29 Coin Club By Harold Schefski, 714-209-3753 Some of us who are coin collectors in The Colony have been meeting for a few months and we are now pleased to announce the formation of a Coin Club! The club meets on the third Wednesday of the month from 6:30 to 8 pm in the Meeting Room. Some of us are planning a trip to the North County Coin Show in Anaheim on Sunday, May 7. Whether you have a collection or are just interested in coins and enjoy sharing about them, contact me if you would like more information about the club or the Coin Show at Harold.Schefski@csulb.edu. Our workshop with Tom Tiedeman on March 30 was a huge success. Many new watercolor artists attended their very first workshop. Tom is not only informative, enjoyable and easy to follow, but truly enjoys teaching those new to watercolor painting. He has taught in our classroom many times over the years, and it was nice to see him return after three years. Many of you have expressed an interest in his classes in Rancho Bernardo and Escondido. Those of you who receive his weekly class information and who wish to get together for carpooling will need to arrange for that during one of our classes. We have another workshop scheduled for May with Bob Straubinger from Hemet of the Valley Art Association. He is discounting his workshop to $20, and his subject will be announced just prior to the time of signup in early May. Please remember that when you commit to a workshop and have paid for your seat, that payment is nonrefundable. If you have committed and cannot attend, you will need to find someone to take your place. Once the announcement is made, please let us hear from you as seats will be limited. Most of you have met Bob, and I agree, he is fun and educational, and he will be providing a drawing for some free items! Thank you to everyone for your participation, and I look forward to seeing all of you in our May workshop. Keep on painting! Watercolor Classes By Sylvia Maxwell, 818-667-1766 Phyllis Penn is our artist for May and has returned to share some of her beautiful animal paintings for your pleasure. Phyllis grew up in the San Fernando Valley and attended Hollywood High School. She is our very own "Valley Girl." She has been a member of the San Fernando Valley Art Association and was a student of instructor Helene Jukoff. Phyllis paints in watercolor and is also a photographer. She paints abstracts, portraits of people and animals as well as landscapes. She is best known for painting portraits of animals and has painted many portraits of pets in The Colony. Like many of our artists, Phyllis participates in our Arts and Crafts show that is held once a year in November. Thank you, Phyllis, for again sharing your wonderful talent with all of us. Artist of the Month By Sylvia Maxwell, 818-667-1766 New Club! New Club!
