| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | MAY 2023 | 31 The Model Railroad Festival was attended by over 500 ticket holders and 85 exhibitors on Saturday and Sunday April 15 and 16. On Fri., April 14, there were 25 happy residents and their visiting youngsters had fun riding the "Big Red Car" at the Southern California Railroad Museum in Perris. The BRC was famous in Los Angeles as part of the Pacific Electric interurban system from about 1911 up to the early 60s before the track was pulled up. The famous Huntington family who was involved with the Southern Pacific railroad also owned the Pacific Eletric line. Tracks ran all over the south land from Manhattan Beach to Redlands and a lot of the same right of way is now the Metrolink line which has a current connection in Perris. The June issue of the Herald will include some photos and stories about the Festival. We want to thank our primary sponsors and volunteers who made our event possible. Stella Torres, Chuck Farr, Gosch Toyota, Lieberman Trust, Gary the Painter, and Hemet Transmission and Auto Care. Volunteers include: Mary Swinney, Margie Culton, Patty Jones, Fred Grimes, Hank Schultz, Fred Weissmann, David Tuvim, Jeanne Lincoln, Ron Hulme, Earl Young, Elliot Yaeger, Fred Rau, Cliff Post, Bob Walker, Blair Becker and the all the staff of our HOA especially Tracie Rogers and Tim Gross.
