40 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MAY 2023 Writers' Club Poems By Jane Czajkowski LAMB'S CANYON Dear: Can you see the hillsides? Oh, so green? e mountains iced like cupcakes. Oh, this land is so beautiful! Can you see it? Remember the drive through Lamb's Canyon? How our imaginations would run wild As we would revel in the views? e peek-a-boo canyons, And pocket caves, And rock sculptures? Now they are all cleansed and decorated As if for a great celebration. (Not like last year with all so dry. In vain would we search for clouds in the sky.) e yuccas in their dress whites Assemble in formation, Awaiting the Captain's announcement: "To let the ball begin." Live Oak Maestro raises his baton. Mother Nature wields her magic wand. Birds trill in four-part harmony. All creatures dance in celebration. Lupines, monkeyflowers, and primroses Vying for "best in show". And the poppies, oh, the poppies! ey are so beautiful, Carpeting the fields in a brilliant gold.. While those along the roadside wave, "Isn't it a beautiful day!" Can you see it too? Oh, please tell me that you do. FLOWERS He never gave me a floral bouquet, But would show love a different way: Not one grand gesture or display, But little treasures, one by one. A rose bush yesterday, mums today. is one needs shade, the other likes the sun. Well, you get what I mean, e yard became a floral scene. To him, a cut flower in a vase or basket Is like a corpse in a casket. Having witnessed war's lethal knife, He would not cut short any creatures life. Including spiders, wasps, and flies, He would have no part in their demise. e day we laid him in the tomb e biznaga burst into bloom. Oh, I so wanted to press it close to my heart, But its thorns kept us apart. How has it been since then? Well, love still tends the garden: Flowers, shrubs, critters, and such. I see him - but I cannot touch. And, that hurts so much. The Writers' Club meets at 1 pm on the second Tuesday of each month in the RCN Conference Room. Since that day, a group of veterans and dependents have been working to establish a club here at Four Seasons. At our last meeting, the group approved bylaws that will allow us to obtain a bank account to begin collecting funds with which to maintain the park. The bylaws establish a board of five members with two alternates. The three positions needed to meet the legal requirements are: President, Treasurer and Adjutant. We have volunteers for these positions as well as the remaining four. The bylaws also define membership as veterans, dependents, and supporters who need not have military service. The club will meet monthly on the fourth Thursday at 10 am in the Game Room. ~ Len Tavernetti, ltavernetti@hotmail.com
