36 | LIFE IN SOLERA | MAY 2023 | The Tuesday Night Poker Group is still going strong in providing a night of fun, friendship, and shuffling… the cards that is! One tip about Texas Hold'em as a new player, you will be nervous! Everyone who just starts feels that way, but you will become more relaxed and confident with each Tuesday you come to play. The group is understanding and always helpful to the new players. Should you be interested to learn before a game night, there are plans to hold Intro to Texas Hold'em events, so watch for the flyers on that. We play every Tuesday evening and play starts at 4 pm in Oakmont Room 3. For more information, please contact Earl Scott at (909) 633-4867 or Cindy Bice at (949) 466-3003. We invite you to come and try your hand at Texas Hold'em. ~ Cindy B. Are you a thwarter? Connie, Jackie, and Betty have been known to be thwarters. Don't get me started on Carol…. we have a Rummikub group that has been meeting for several months in the Oakmont Room. Our numbers continue to grow and our group is open to all, even friends or relatives of Solera residents. Rummikub is much like your childhood card game of Rummy, except played with tiles instead of cards. Thwarting is to make a play with your tiles that thwarts (prevents) the next player from the move that they had possibly planned on, so this game requires flexibility. Research shows that social interaction and playing table games are both good for the brain. No previous experience in playing Rummikub is required; we are happy to teach newcomers and have take-home copies of the rules. If you are already a player, perhaps you could teach us a thing or two. We look forward to having you join in the fun and flex or develop some thwarting skills. If you have any questions please call Victoria at (928) 864-8223 or Connie at (909) 801-9238. RUMMIKUB TUESDAY NIGHT POKER BINGO SOCIAL CLUB Bridge is one of the most widely played card games, especially among retirees. According to the American Contract Bridge League, more than 25 million Americans regularly play Bridge. Solera has its own Bridge Club which meets every Wednesday at 12:15 pm in the Oakmont Rooms. The club has a wide range of players from beginners, to those who have played for years. If you're an experienced Bridge player or have just learned the game, we invite you to join us on Wednesdays. For more information, contact Margaret Morton at (951) 769-0623. If you do not currently play Bridge, we invite you to learn the game at no cost. Contact Bruce Roberts at (951) 797-0017 for more information; Bruce will teach game basics in six one day per week sessions. BRIDGE Our club meets twice a month on the first and third Thursdays. Doors open at 5 pm and Bingo begins at 6 pm. For further information, contact Mary Anne Roadick (909) 239-6698.
