| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2023 | 39 PLEASE NOTE—DATE CHANGED DUE TO MOTHERS' DAY On Sun., May 21, the Friendship Club presents a brand-new tribute show featuring a host of classic jukebox hits, celebrating some of the most iconic singer-songwriters of the 20th century. "California Dreamers – The Sounds of Laurel Canyon" takes audiences on a musical journey though the magical 60s and the psychedelic 70s. The show tells the true story of the small community in the foothills of Los Angeles that became home to some of the biggest-selling artists of all time. Taking audiences by storm with sell-out performances, the show features hits from legends such as The Mamas and Papas, The Byrds, The Eagles, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Linda Rondstadt, Carole King, The Monkees, and many more. The six-piece live band will perform the greatest hits from these musical geniuses who changed the music of a generation. As well as featuring hit songs, the show includes authentic archive film footage, and presents real-life stories of the events which rocked the world and the relationships that inspired those who lived in the Canyon to write and produce the classic hits that defined a generation. Sing and dance the night away to Mr. Tambourine Man, Love the One You're With, It's Too Late, Happy Together, I'm a Believer, Both Sides Now, Our House, Big Yellow Taxi, You've Got a Friend, and California Dreamin', plus a whole host of other world class songs. Sun Lakes residents are invited to join the Friendship Club and enjoy Vegas-style entertainment up close and personal. Membership fee is $25 per person for the year. If you renew your Friendship Club membership before Dec. 31, your name will be entered into a drawing for two free tickets to any show in 2024. Tickets for each show are $25 for members, and $30 for non- resident guests. Doors open at 6 pm with open seating, and the show begins at 7 pm. The Friendship Club Cruzin' Cronies is a Classic Car Club, but you don't need to own a classic car to join. We get together on the first Saturday of the month at 9 am either in the Multipurpose Room of the Main Clubhouse or outside under the trees at the far end of the parking lot, weather permitting. In the Multipurpose Room, we schmooze about our cars, talk about upcoming car shows and related events, and then go to breakfast.
