| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2023 | 51 "May the flowers remind us why the rain was so necessary." Xan Oku Our April meeting was delayed a week because of Sun Lakes Master Board elections, but the eventful meeting was well worth the wait. Sue Savage, of our Penny Pines committee, shared a brief presentation on explaining the Penny Pines Program, our involvement and our contributions toward reforesting our local national forests. Pat Pennington, our Garden of Eat-em guy, shared his knowledge on the care and maintenance of garden tools. And, we were also proud to announce that we have contributed two more beautiful new benches to our community. One is at the second putting green on the north side, and the other is on Country Club approaching Gate 3. We are all about community involvement and education through entertainment. Therefore, we are truly fortunate that Robert Ruseckas returned to present "A Different Way to Look at Taking Flower Photos." His work is frequently featured on the cover of Lifestyles Magazine (his gazania collage is on the cover of this month's Lifestyles). Not only does he have a talent for photography, but, we always come away with something new we've learned. He shared many of his techniques for taking flower photos that turn a photo into an art piece. No doubt the photographers in attendance were exceedingly delighted. Coming up: "Butterflies in May," is the theme for our May 10 Spring Luncheon; it promises to be a joyful social event. The yummy menu includes apricot glazed chicken, spring veggies, rice pilaf, and a dessert. A vegetarian option is also available. If you have yet to purchase your tickets, time is running out. It is open seating and tickets are available for $25. As of this writing, ticket sale dates for May have not been set, so look for dates and times in the display case across from the Main Clubhouse Library or call Janis Rice (909) 851 2144. Guests are always welcome to attend one of our meetings which are on the second Wednesday of every month at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom (unless otherwise announced). Dates for the next few months are May 10, June 14, and July 12. Dues are only $15 a year. For questions or help, contact President Beverly Agner at (951) 306-7379).
