She married at 17 and later went to college to get her RN degree. Lorene loved music, books, horses, and travel. In recent years, she enjoyed playing bridge. She was proud of her Irish heritage and loved to sing. She was a long-time member of the Drama Club/Playhouse and appeared in several plays. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Fred Sowash. She is survived by their two sons, Stephan and David, grandson Matt, granddaughter Alisa, and great-granddaughter Scarlett. Roger L. Smith passed away February 22, 2023. He lived in Sun Lakes for 20 years. Roger was born in Illinois on April 11, 1932. He pursued several careers, beginning as a high school teacher and later as assistant superintendent of schools. He worked from 1960 as a part time and later full time private investigator. He and his wife owned a company called Roger L. Smith Investigations and employed 13 people. Roger was named Investigator of the Year by his peers. He volunteered with the CHP as Sergeant, in charge of the Idyllwild office. He recently retired from the adjunct position in teacher training at the University of Redlands. While in Sun Lakes, Roger spent 10 years as a the Chairman of the Sun Lakes Safety Committee and was the leader of the Creative Writers Group. He has written numerous articles for Investigator's Journals and Insurance Adjuster Journals. He directed and wrote articles for Wonder Writers book published by the Creative Writers Group in 2011. Roger had his book Murder, Fraud and She Didn't Graduate, published by Morris Publishing. Roger earned a BA in Psychology, MA in Counseling, ED in Education, and LL.B. in Law. Roger enjoyed sailing, skiing, hiking, reading, writing, attending community affairs, and visiting with family. He loved training his Lab, Jade, as a therapy dog. Roger is survived by his wife Diana, sons Eric Smith, Dr. James Mitchell, Bill Mitchell, and daughter Kelleen Cota; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
