| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2023 | 9 By Michele Walter, crystalwater@dc.rr.com I would like to remind our residents that the Community Awareness Program is not a complaint center for issues regarding Waste Management, vandalism, dogs not on leashes, electric issue, etc. Although I like talking to all of you, this is not the idea of the program. This program provides: • Information on important public safety matters and community interest • Has guest speakers each month with topics that relate to a 55+ community • Informs residents on how to recognize and report suspicious activities to the police • Distributes materials on how to make homes more secure, how to protect property, and how to reduce the risk of being victimized Your community concerns or suggestions can best be addressed by the following outlets: please be aware of the delegate process, the committee structure, and last but most important, if you want your concerns addressed in a timely manner, utilize the Message to Management function, either with the website or the written form located at the Main Clubhouse reception desk. SECURITY AND SAFETY TIPS: CAR SAFETY • Make sure all doors are locked and windows are rolled up while driving. You don't want someone jumping into your car when you stop in traffic • Never leave anything valuable in plain view • Never leave car keys inside the vehicle, not even in your garage or for "just a minute" • Always lock the doors when you leave the vehicle, even if only for a short time • Park as close as possible to where you are going • Avoid hiding a spare key in the car • When returning to your car, look around as you approach the vehicle • Have your key ready in your hand before approaching the car; don't fumble looking for the key • Peek into the back seat of your car before getting in • Once you're inside the car, lock all doors immediately Please join us for our next program: Fire Extinguisher Use - Be Prepared: How to properly use a fire extinguisher, make your home safe. Our guest speaker will be Chris Grant from READYHUB on June 13 from 10 am to 12 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Let us all be informed and stay safe. For more information, please contact Michele Walter at (951) 202-8009 or email crystalwater@dc.rr.com. PLEASE REPORT ANY SUSPICIOUS INDIVIDUALS, ACTIVITIES AND THEFTS DIRECTLY TO BANNING POLICE DEPARTMENT, CALL 911. Community Awareness Program
