| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2023 | 15 Sun Lakes Committee Reports One of the biggest reasons people move to Sun Lakes is the "curb appeal" of the community as a whole. The appearance of our homes and yards make it a pleasure just to drive through our gates and be surrounded by well maintained properties. One reason that the community looks as well as it does is that we have our rules that lay out the rules and restrictions that govern our association. The Master Architectural Committee is charged with upholding these rules during the application process. Any changes to the exterior of the home or the yard must be submitted in an application through the Planning and Compliance staff. The application is then considered by the Master Architectural Committee {MAC), which meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. In Sun Lakes, "front" yards are considered to be basically whatever can be seen from the street. This means that the "front" yard extends all the way back to where a fence or wall separates the "front" from the "back." While many of the same rules apply to both front and back yards, there is generally more flexibility in back yards which cannot be seen from the golf course, street, or common area. Any modifications to front or back yards must be documented in an application and approved by the MAC. The requirements for submission are really not that difficult and help is always available from Planning and Compliance staff. They will be glad to help you complete the forms with all the required information. A complete application makes it possible to approve your request. An incomplete application will generally not be approved and will cost you an additional two weeks until the MAC meets again to reconsider your request. Let's all work together to keep Sun Lakes the beautiful place it is. Review the regulations in your phone book and help us maintain the harmonious appearance of our community. If you are going to make changes to your home or yard, fill out an application (with any desired help from the staff ), notify your neighbors, and submit your form for approval. Upon approval, you will get the coveted yellow approval card to place in a visible location and proudly show your neighbors that you are working to make our community a better place to live. ~ Jerry Howell Master Architectural
