16 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2023 | Sun Lakes Committee Reports The FAC is an Advisory Committee designed to support the Board, analyze financial information, and to provide recommendations to the Sun Lakes Board and FirstService Residential, our management company. These recommendations are intended to maintain and improve the financial performance of the community. Areas of focus include the following: Investments, Cash Accounts, Reserves, Insurance, Golf Amenity, Restaurant & Lounge Amenity, and Balance Sheet. We are pleased to announce that Mary Jo Mc Elwain has been elected as Vice Chair of the committee working directly with our Chair, Don Day. Committee members are Don Day (Chair), Mary Jo Mc Elwain (Vice Chair), Bill Bess, Gino Demonaco, Harry Finigan, Bob Messier, Ron Mitchell, and Steve Von Rajcs. Investments update: A sub committee was formed in February with Steve Von Rajcs and Ron Mitchell to review the policy drafted in 2014. Three investments identified as "soon to mature" were reinvested in March by the Investment Officer, Chris Mitchell. Following FAC discussions with Mr. Mitchell, a study of all low yield investments was requested and performed by Karla Chung of FirstService Residential. A report identifying investments that should be canceled and reinvested at higher rates was provided to Chris Mitchell with a copy to the FAC. Reinvesting began in April. In addition to sub-committees created in March, a new sub- committee focusing on Cash Accounts was formed under Mary Joe Mc Elwain. CALLING ALL RETIRED BUSINESS AND FINANCIAL RESIDENTS: We were all pleased and proud to see that Gary Burkel has been elected to our Master Board as treasurer. Gary has been a valued member of our team and will be greatly missed. Fortunately, he will serve as our liaison to the Board going forward. e FAC is looking for new members! Filling our open positions allows us to continue to provide services to our Board. We work very closely to accomplish our goals while being sensitive to all members' personal activities outside of the committee. Members with experience working in a small to large business or in a financial related career are encouraged to apply. If you are interested in helping us continue to ensure the financial success of our great community and make a difference, please contact Don Day at (951) 392-4029 or come to one of our meetings on the third Wednesday of each month in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room at 2 pm. You are always welcome. What is the purpose of this committee? The Procurement Advisory Committee (PAC) was chartered to serve the Master Board of Directors in a research and recommendation capacity. The PAC does not define or manage the procurement process, but functions to advise and make recommendations to the Board on matters pertaining to contracts as well as the Request for Quote/Request for Proposal (RFQ/RFP) process. Our most recent review was for the Common Area Landscape RFP. FirstService Residential (FSR) received six responses to the RFP. The six vendors that responded to the RFP were vendors that FSR deemed as qualified contenders. Our team completed the review and analysis of all proposals and submitted their 'Vendor Proposal Recommendation' report to the Board and FSR. We would encourage the community to review the PAC Handbook, which will give you a better understanding as to the purpose and function of the committee. The PAC Handbook, Charter, Agendas and Minutes are located on the Sun Lakes website under Community Info, Committees. Meetings are held on the third Monday of the month. Our next meeting is June 19 at 9 am in the Administration Conference Room. Members of the SLCC community are welcome to attend and observe, making comments at the end of the session. Committee members include Bob Hix, Chairman; Shannon McKinney, Secretary; and members Larry Davis, Raelene Kretchman, Tony Peters, and Ron Varner. Board Liaison is Bob Walter; FSR Liaison is Chris Mitchell. Financial Advisory Procurement Advisory Summer is here and it's time to be out and about!
