Lovely butterfly decorations, yummy food, and an excellent group from the Chorale entertained us with song. The butterfly theme was so fun we're continuing the idea for our June 14 Garden Club meeting. Our featured speaker will be our own Janis Rice offering a PowerPoint presentation on Painted Lady Butterflies. Janis has had extensive experience raising these lovely creatures from caterpillars to the beautiful butterfly they become. We're looking forward to learning how everyone can have Painted Ladies gracing their own gardens. Janis said once they are established in a place, they will return there every year. Those who are interested in raising some of their own will be able to order kits at the meeting which include the chrysalis and instructions. At our April meeting, our Garden of Eat-em Guy, Pat Pennington, offered information on the efficient cleaning and care of small garden tools and why it's worth the small effort to do so. This month, he will cover larger tools like shovels and such. As of this writing forward, our article will often include Pat's "Tip of the Month Tid- Bit." This month: If you're battling snails, try putting several slices of cucumber flat in a throw-away aluminum pie tin. The cucumber and metal react to each other putting off a gas that chases away the snails yet doesn't cause a problem for other wildlife. Guests are always welcome to attend one of our meetings which are on the second Wednesday of every month at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom (unless otherwise announced). Dates for the next few months are July 12, Aug. 9, Sept. 13. Dues are only $15 a year.
