Gloria Joan Strief On March 22, 2023, Gloria Joan Strief, also lovingly known
as Big G, mom, grandma, great-grandma, and GG, passed away at the age of 86 at Twin Lakes
Retirement Community in Montgomery, Ohio.
Gloria was born on August 19, 1936, in Manchester, Iowa to Lloyd Samuel Hockaday and
Venita Marie Hockaday (Daniels). She grew up in the small town of Manchester and married
her high school sweetheart Milton (Mick) John Strief on August 22, 1954 at the Little Brown
Church in the Vale. They moved from Iowa to California in 1960 where they raised their family
in Riverside and later in Fullerton, California. In 2001, they retired to Sun Lakes. She enjoyed
playing bridge, golf, and traveling in their motorhome. In 2018, she moved to Twin Lakes
Retirement Community in Ohio.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband Mick Strief; her parents, Lloyd and Venita
Hockaday; and her brother, Curtis Hockaday. She is survived by her four children and
spouses, Jeff Strief and his wife Lee, Julie Wilson and her husband Scott, Joan Bridgewater
and her husband Wes, and Jill Minkle and her husband Bill. She was dearly loved by her 11
grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Her sense of humor and ability to get a giggle out
of those around her will be greatly missed.
She will be laid to rest this summer alongside her husband, surrounded by her loving family,
in the Oakland Cemetery in Manchester, Iowa.
