During a major emergency event our community may find it necessary to evacuate. This will raise a lot of questions like where do we go and what should we take? These answers and many more are in the Sun Lakes' EPAP Manual. On page 11, section E: "Purpose: Evacuation, in an emergency situation, is designed as a preemptive action which will facilitate people leaving an unsafe situation or location for a location of relative safety. Evacuation plans may or may not be implemented concurrent with the Emergency Action Plan. Orders to evacuate should initially come from the EPAP Executive Team or local authorities such as fire and/or police." On page 16, appendix A: Limited Evacuation and Mass Evacuation is described as: "Limited Evacuation would be used for those most directly and immediately affected by the situation i.e.: heavy smoke, as might be caused by an adjacent brush fire. Mass evacuation would be mandated when the need to conduct a complete evacuation of the Sun Lakes community is precipitated by a destructive event, such as an earthquake, transport accident releasing a toxic substance, or a broken fuel line." The type and severity of the event and other existing factors will determine which evacuation method will be suggested or ordered. In either situation it is ALWAYS important to wait for instructions and have your "GO BAG" ready and in a convenient place to grab and go. By registering your cell phones with Riverside County at https:// rivcoready.org/alert-rivco, you will receive emergency updates. You can also text 92220 to 888777 to get updates from the city of Banning Nixle Alert. This will give you alerts about emergencies and other important community news. 12 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2023 | EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS COMMUNITY EVACUATION Now we would like to introduce you to another EPAP Coordinator. Hi, my name is Janis Rice. I moved to Sun Lakes in November 2021, and almost immediately became the Alternate Delegate for District 13. Soon aer, I took on the EPAP Coordinator position and participated in District 13's Great California Shake Out Drill, in October 2022. Recently, I took on an even bigger involvement in the Sun Lakes' EPAP Team and became the EPAP PIO (Public Information Officer). I am enjoying this new commitment so much, but it means District 13 needs a new EPAP Coordinator. We are also in need of Zone Captains and an MRT. If you are interested in volunteering, please feel free to contact me at (909) 851-2144.
