Do you have the next Great American Novel, ala Dickens, in your head and want to get it written and read? Perhaps your literary leanings are toward a Shakespearian sonnet? Possibly you yearn to write more in the counterculture vein of Jack Kerouac. Perhaps you are inspired by the likes of Arthur Conan Doyle to write a detective story. Maybe a collection of essays that would do justice to Emerson or Thoreau is just right for you, or perhaps something in the creepy and spooky genre of Edgar Allan Poe. How about song lyrics, poetry, or even a full-length play? Will the world be enthralled by your autobiography? Or best of all, have you written something that shows your unique literary vision? If this piques your interest, or if you just want to hear what others have written, you are a perfect fit for the Sun Lakes Creative Writers club. We would love to have you share your work, be it a draft in progress or ready for publication. You will find a non-critical audience who would be happy to provide feedback and be inspired by your work. The Sun Lakes Creative Writers club meets in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room from 1 to 3 pm the first Monday of each month, and from 3 to 5 pm in the same place the third Thursday of each month. We would love to have you drop by and take part in our discussions. | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2023 | 37 At our April meeting, I, your humble servant, was allowed the privilege of demonstrating my very different metal embossing art. Along with our faithful Art League members, so many of my personal friends showed up to this very unique presentation. A special thanks to Danny, Diana, Jan, Kat, Linda W, Linda W, Mary, Shelly, and Teri. Without my audience, it might have been flat. My favorite art of choice is called "repujado," pronounced (reh-poo-haw-doh). It's the process of embossing on a type of aluminum sheet to create a three-dimensional image using tiny teaspoon size metal tools. Currently my supplies are easily found in Mexico, but I have been informed that these may be found online. Our April Mini Art Show winners were Linda Grabler in Third Place who presented her dazzling representation of blooming hydrangeas done in watercolors, Don Foster in Second Place who brought us his creation in acrylic paints of a splendid sail boat on a summer day and in First Place is Susan Van Loon who introduced three absolutely captivating zebras designed in oil paints. These, and so many other pieces of incredible art can be seen at the art gallery of the Sun Lakes Main Hall. Our next meeting is Sun., Aug. 13. Our guests do not pay any fee or admittance charge, so we urge all Sun Lakes residents to join us. If you would like to become a member, there is but a tiny yearly member rate of $20, which covers the entire year per person. Members enjoy special private events and are allowed to showcase their items at the Sun Lakes Main Hall. "I paint flowers so they will never die."
