| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2023 | 59 The Summer Tournament is about to begin. Entries must be in by June 2, so if you haven't gotten to it yet, you have a few more days. Play begins the week of June 12. Playing times will change to 5, 6, and 7 pm, to hopefully avoid the worst of our usual summer heat. The referees have been keeping track of the times matches begin and when they end. This information will help us decide what to do about the matches that have been taking too long to play. It's possible that we will play to the hour and end the matches at that point, whether the winner has gone to 16 or not. That decision has yet to be made. More on this a little later. Questions? Well, besides the various casinos in the area, members ventured out to tour Death Valley, and we are happy to report that everyone did make it back. Members also went to tour the Red Rock Canyon area, which was beautiful. It ranks right up there with the Red Rocks of Sedona. At Sunday's meet and greet, members had happy hour and pizza while everyone mingled and to got to know those on the Rally, as there were a number of first-timers. Monday, was game day which was all set up by Joe and Carmen Snook. This day consisted of cornhole and baseball. Good thing the bases were only 10 feet apart, as I'm not sure some of us would have been able to run 90' base paths for the home runs being hit. A second night of games featured horse racing, which was a lot of fun. The overall winner of the games was Team 3 with Jim Alexanian, Jan Wilhelmson, Lillie Sims, Phyllis Ramella, Susie Martin, Randy Miller, and Bob Palmer. Tuesday was a free day for everyone to go their own ways. People went to Death Valley, Red Rock Canyon, and four-wheeling in the mountains. Wednesday was golf at Lakeview Executive Golf Course. While the course was a bit rough, everyone had a good time. The team that won was that of Sandi Miller, Jeff Sims, Steve Martin, and Rick McHard, coming in at 5 under par. I can attest that their score was accurate as their secret weapon was Sandi. She was sinking putts that would put some pros to shame. One I watched from off the green, Sandi was chipping but apparently the ball moved and she skulled it. It was headed for the next zip code when it hit the flag pole and dropped straight into the hole. Oh, I have to mention the team that came in at 5 over par. They may not have made some sensational shots, but they sure had some moves when they made par or birdie shots. I caught them dancing around the pole a few times having fun. Thursday was another free day to go out and venture, and at night we had a catered dinner. Afterward, it was our awards night for the winners of the various games and golf. Our June birthdays are Cindy C. 6/12, Keith N. 6/27, Bob P. 6/1, Joan W. 6/2, and John W. 6/6. Wishing you kids the best on your birthdays. You might think that because you don't own a motorhome, or travel trailer, you can't join and participate. You'd be incorrect. Most campgrounds have cottages for rent, just like an RV spot. They may cost a little more, but you can drive your gas-friendly vehicle there and save the money being spent on gas and upkeep of a rig. Just being with the group is a lot of fun, entertaining, and you get to make new friends.
