36 | OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2023 | When traveling to the wine country around Paso Robles one expects to be impressed with the wine and wineries and they did not disappoint. The whimsical and magnificent sculpture gardens in the countryside vineyard at Sculpterra Winery were outstanding. The extraordinary private wine tasting and delicious catered Italian dinner our Wagon Masters arranged for our Club below ground in an Eberle Winery cave was accessed by winding tunnels lined with oak barrels filled with maturing wine. However, we were quite surprised and delighted about another very different experience called Sensorio. On 15 acres of picturesque rolling grasslands, dotted with graceful White Oaks, the creators planted 100,000 fiber optic stemmed spheres of light. We awaited in comfortable seating on an overlooking ridge as twilight descended and these solar powered spheres illuminated with slowly changing pastel colors to give an unworldly glow to the whole valley. As darkness fell, we then meandered through the valley on a half mile of pathways, being surrounded by a sea of lights. Truly a remarkable evening! Our second destination was about five hours north to Petaluma in Sonoma County. Through the mid 1900s, Petaluma was known as the "Egg Capital of the World." This brought prosperity producing architecturally interesting buildings, including several with iron fronts. Docents, dressed in vintage costumes, provided our Club with an interesting walking tour of their historic and welcoming small town. The lovely Francis Ford Coppola Winery and landscaped gardens also offered rooms of movie awards, props and memorabilia from his family's movie careers, most notably the Godfather trilogy. He has a room devoted to his spectacular 1948 Tucker; a rare sports car which he still occasionally takes for a spin at 92 years of age. Midday found us strolling among the majestic Redwoods at Armstrong Woods State Park, and enjoying a picnic lunch in a clearing amidst these wonderful trees. Then onward by bus along steep and winding roads to the windswept bluffs overlooking the stormy Pacific Ocean near the mouth of the Russian River. Another day, our clever Wagon Masters mapped out a day in San Francisco for us. Starting on the commuter railroad then transferring to board a catamaran which would ferry us across the Bay to the ferry landing in San Francisco. A short ride on a trolley brought us to the start of our bus tour. A double decker open-top bus wound through most of the well-known districts and across the Golden Gate Bridge for us to enjoy the highlights of the city. Along with happy hour and dinner at the campground and free time to explore on our own, it was a very well organized, well run, and fun RV Club trip! Next meeting of the club is June 6 in the Hall, 6:30 pm for social time and 7 pm for the business meeting. RV Club
