| OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2023 | 31 Taking photos at a party can be a fun way to capture memories and document the event. Here are some tips to help you take great party photos: • Get to know your camera - Whether you are using a smartphone or a digital camera, take the time to familiarize yourself with the settings and features. Experiment with different modes and settings, such as portrait mode or night mode, to see which ones work best in different lighting conditions. • Scout the location - Before the party starts, take a walk around the venue and look for interesting backdrops or settings for photos. You can also scout out areas with good lighting, such as near windows or outdoor areas. • Capture candid moments - One of the best things about party photos is capturing candid moments of people having fun. Look for natural interactions and capture them in the moment. You can also encourage guests to take group photos or selfies together. • Use the flash selectively, or not at all - While flash can be useful in low light conditions, it can also be too harsh and create unflattering shadows. Try using natural light as much as possible and only use the flash when absolutely necessary. Or shoot RAW and fix the lighting later. • Be creative - Don't be afraid to experiment with different angles and compositions. Try shooting from low angles or overhead to capture interesting perspectives. You can also play around with editing apps to add filters or effects to your photos. • Take breaks - Remember to take breaks and enjoy the party yourself. You don't want to spend the entire time behind the camera and miss out on the fun. • Share your photos - After the party, share your photos with the guests and on social media. It's a great way to relive the memories and share the fun with others. By following these tips, you can take great party photos that capture the spirit and energy of the event. Remember to have fun and enjoy the process! The Ocean Hills Photo Club is open to all residents. Dues are $8/ year. We meet (most) months on the third Thursday at 1 pm in the Lamia Room.
