FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JUNE 2023 53 The Tennis Club had our annual dinner event on April Fool's Day this year. Go figure! But it was no joke. We picked a very pleasant, sunny day to do it at The Courts on the outside patio. Lots of members and some spouses attended. Everyone had a great time. At least that is what I thought. If anyone disagrees, please go knock on Chuck Beckman's and Larry Martin's doors and complain to them, or forever hold your peace! We had plenty of food, including tri-tip, chicken marsala, salad, rolls, desserts, etc. Best of all, it was all catered. No one had to lift a finger to cook. Participants even walked away with doggie bags of leftovers. Thanks to Lou Stokes for spearheading and organizing this successful event. This year, two of the five executive committee members' two-year terms are up. The two members are Chuck Beckman and yours truly. As usual, we tried to bribe other members to volunteer and serve. Despite all the unbelievable fringe benefits and huge sign-on bonuses we are offering, no one has taken the bait. So, looks like the committee will remain the same for another term. The five members are: Chuck Beckman, Larry Martin, Lou Stokes, MJ Newcomer, and Stan Lam. I personally think that the incumbent committee should just award itself with the handsome sign-on bonuses intended for the new volunteers. Haha, JK! All kidding aside, the committee is already back at work to serve our club. The first activity would be a tournament slated sometime in May. So keep your ears to the ground and watch for official announcements from the POTTC (President of The Tennis Club) as opposed to POTUS. However, by the time you read this article, the tournament would already be history and you might just be the champion admiring your six foot tall trophy sitting in your living room. Well then, congratulations! See you all at The Courts. Just driving east of Four Seasons for 15 miles can make you think you are in the desert where the cactus hurts your toes, and of course you would be thinking right. But there is more than cactus in the desert. There is an International Senior Olympics that beckoned four of our Four Season ping pong players to participate in the ping pong tournament at Palm Desert. The only thing you can be sure of in this tournament is that you are going to walk into some very good competition. You can't expect to walk away with medals but if you do, so much the better. Happy to say, all four of our players walked away with medals. Pictured below are Sandi Butler-Roberts (one gold in singles and one silver in mixed doubles), Mitch Harmon (one bronze in singles and one silver in mixed doubles), Niles Sundstrom (one silver in singles) and Bob Smith (one gold in singles). These four players honed their ping pong skills by playing ping pong at The Courts. They would love to have you play with them Mondays through Saturdays from 2 to 4 pm. Come give it a try.
