52 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JUNE 2023 Meet Nancy Hessin (at left), one of Four Seasons Pickleball Club's most patient and supportive players and instructors. She was born in Pennsylvania and moved to a small town in Colorado when she was 12. Nancy grew up playing sports her whole life. Her father was a geologist and instilled in her a love of math and science, but it was not her passion. She decided to go into teaching and received her bachelor's degree at the University of Colorado and her master's degree at Eastern Washington University. It was there that she developed her patience and teaching style, working with pre-school children. Nancy loved working with little ones and spent her 40-year career teaching elementary school Physical Education. Nancy started playing pickleball in 2007; she was playing in a three-on-three basketball tournament in Louisville and she came upon a group playing in the gymnasium. They invited her to join them and she was hooked! Since then, Nancy has taught pickleball to hundreds of people – mostly adults. She is really happy that pickleball has become so popular. Her motto is "have fun" while learning. We are so lucky to have her here at Four Seasons Beaumont. Please join us at our weekly player development classes on Saturday mornings at 9:30 am – hope to see you all on the courts! ~ Lori Crosse crosselc1@ verizon.net Pickleball Nancy instructing the player development class No, you are not witnessing a mirage, nor is this the monthly Breeze joke section. The newly-sanctioned Spin 'n Slam Table Tennis Club was formed to welcome those Four Seasons ping pong fans who are serious about the game, and are comfortable playing in a fun and competitive environment. We anticipate that those who wish to join us are somewhat familiar with the USTTA rules of table tennis, and either practice, or are willing to learn, the proper techniques of serving the ping pong ball. Our group plays at The Courts on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays beginning at 10 am. For those who haven't played ping pong for decades and wish to get back up to speed, our colleague Jim Wong (who will be returning from overseas in June) will continue to offer lessons on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1 pm. In the interim, stop by the Courts on the mornings we play and show us what you got! See you then. ~ Bob Rubenstein, brube88@gmail.com Spin 'N Slam Table Tennis New Club! New Club! We welcome all new players. As our weather warms, a group plays anywhere from 4 or 5 pm. We have extra paddles if you would like to learn. Just send me a message and we would love to teach you. We are a fun-loving group. ~ Lizzie Carbajal Gallegos, ecgallegos@outlook. com Paddle Tennis
