54 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JUNE 2023 We began our summer season on April 21 and had a few fantastic sessions in the Courts pool, with lots of sun and warm weather. Then, just when we thought our cold, wet winter was behind us, wham, more weeks of chilly weather! A big thank you to the Management and Board at Four Seasons for allowing us to return to indoor play at The Summit for a couple of weeks. By the time you read this, we should be back at the Courts, once again enjoying the summer sun. In the summer, we meet at the Courts on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 am to 12 pm. As previously mentioned, we have many activities planned for this summer in addition to our regular volleyball play. Volleyball played in the water is an easy way to get some low impact exercise, and we are always looking for new players. All ages, heights, and skill levels are welcome. If you are looking for a club where you can have fun and laughs with your friends and neighbors, come join us and bring your guests along. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun! For more info, email Mel Harkin at odeegos@yahoo.com. ~ Mike MacQueen Water Volleyball Club Bocce Club Bocce Ball is played at The Summit on two courts overlooking the surrounding valley. With summer approaching and the weather warming up as you read this, we will be changing our start time. Our new start time will be 8 am on Tuesdays and Fridays. Play is on beautiful tournament-grade courts with surrounding smooth concrete. The word Bocce comes from an Italian word which is plural, meaning "to bowl." Bocce (pronounced baa-chee) is a lawn or yard game that is played with eight weighted balls aimed at a smaller target ball or pallino. The objective of the game is to earn points by getting your balls closer to the pallino than your opponent. Players take turns until all eight balls are thrown. This makes it an ideal game for socializing in between turns. Often cheers or laughter can be heard. No one has an edge in Bocce Ball unless of course they have played for years. We generally play to 12 points. Two games are played and take approximately 1 1/2 hours. First court winners stay and are challenged on second game by winners on the second court. We mix and match so no team has an advantage. And everyone is able to play. It requires no specific skill or previous experience. You will get a little exercise and enjoy beautiful views and breezes at The Summit, all while having a great time with a great group of people. If you are interested in learning the game, please join us. Any questions contact me at hanknegrete16@yahoo.com or (909) 747-7087. ~ Hank Negrete
