34 | THE COLONY NEWS | JUNE 2023 | Actors Studio By Marsha Tobolski, 562-244-9223 Coin Club By Harold Schefski, 714-209-3753 Coming Soon to e Colony: It is kind of hard to believe that more than 20 years ago a handful of specially- talented residents created The Colony Players Theater Group. Out of their dedicated work and creativity, the first resident-based variety show debuted with rave reviews. Spring forward and today the group has grown to 65 devoted residents who bring to us the annual variety show. Whether they are performing, producing or promoting this well-loved event, their goal is to entertain their fellow residents and leave them with lasting memories. The 2023 theme is "The Colony's Got Talent Variety Show: Game Show Edition." Show dates are Saturday, Oct. 21 and Sunday, Oct. 22 at 7 pm in the Auditorium. According to Brenda Sindorf, chair of the Players, this year the Writers Workshop Team, which consists of residents, wrote all the Game Show scripts. Ticket information for this highly anticipated and popular event will be provided as the show gets closer. Tickets will be sold only in person and will not be available for purchase online. Players eater By Kathleen Ricketts, 951-894-1919 It's time for all of you who are interested in participating in our March 2024 production of e Irish Eyes Murder to mark your calendar for the auditions. The dates are Monday, June 19 from 6 to 8 pm in the Auditorium, and for those of you who are unable to come on June 19, we will have a second audition on Thursday, June 22 from 5 to 7 pm in the Auditorium. We meet on the second Thursday of every month from 4 to 6 pm in the Card Room and the fourth Thursday from 5 to 7 pm in the Annex. In the cast for this production are five female characters and five male ones: a pseudo diva, a hunky guy with an ego, a nice girl who loves to sing, a barmaid and her father who owns the pub, the pub's flirty and sexy hostess, the pub's quiet dishwasher who secretly yearns for the barmaid, an ex-wife who shows up after seven years, a cowboy type, and a host who interacts with the audience. You do not have to be an "actor" to be part of our group. Understudies for all the characters are needed, and there are many other opportunities to participate in our production, such as technical support, hosts and hostesses, costume and makeup, poster and program designs, stage management, and scenery design to name a few. Several of the actors in our last production had no theatrical background and were superb! I'm sure we will be able to accommodate your interests and talents. So don't be shy — come to the audition and/or one of our workshop/meetings. We hope to see many of you! Please contact Greg Hill 951-526-9896 or Chuck Gordon 661- 714-3847 if you have any questions. Coin Club members attended the Coin Convention in Anaheim on May 7, and all had a great time! The Coin Club meets on the third Wednesday evening of the month from 6:30 to 8 pm in the Clubhouse Meeting Room. Coin dealer Dylan Baker will be the guest speaker at the June 21 meeting. We trade coins, talk about how coins are acquired, and just have fun with a common interest. All are invited to join. The Club organizer is Colony resident Harold Schefski. If you would like information about joining the Coin Club, contact Harold at (714) 209- 3753 or email Harold.Schefski@csulb.edu. New Club! New Club!
