36 | THE COLONY NEWS | JUNE 2023 | May Colony Couples 2Ball results… MAY WINNER: RAIN Thanks to all who placed themselves on the May roster. You are brave, hearty souls who are always willing to make this tournament a success by stepping up to the tee. The Colony Couples tournament was launched in July 2022 and over the ensuing 11 months has had six successful tournaments and five cancellations due to scheduling and/or weather. Are we hexed or what? What is a given is that all who participate "have a good time." We shall try again on June 1, so mark your calendars for the next challenge. Requirements for this event are to be able to grasp a club. Being a member of the Men's or Women's Golf Club is not required. Just pick up some sticks and join us for a friendly afternoon for fun. Tee times vary based upon the "setting of the sun." If you have an interest, give me a call or drop me an email at dmurph44@verizon. net and I will send you a 2023 tournament schedule (first Thursday afternoon each month), rules of the game and include you in our active mailing list. I look forward to hearing from you. See ya on the links! Jack & Jill By Dennis Murphy, 951-461-0457 The April tournament is in the books. Twelve foursomes provided 48 golfers a chance to occupy first place position in the two flights of our most popular event, the "Pick Your Own Foursome" competition. This is always a spirited event as teams are put together by the golfers and submitted at sign up. It's always a hotly contested event as each team believes that they have put together the BEST players and handicaps to launch them into success. Expecting mild "spring like" weather was a nice thought, for we experienced a rather chilly day on the links. When the tournament was completed, the following posted winning positions for the contest: Winning Teams "A" Flight 1st: 45.248, Joe Jaramillo, Barbara Crosdale, David and Donna MacLagan 2nd: 46.109, Dave Funston, Denise Strum, Charles Craven and Paula Thompson 3rd: 49.457, Bruce Dalfonso, Connie Vanderbyl, Ron Brown and Debbie Johnson "B" Flight 1st: 45.233, Bob Miller, Sue Jordan, Joe Cwirka and Marge Anderson 2nd: 45.365, Ken Kawamura, Bonnie Hinman, Randy Meyer and Annette Lalicker 3rd: 47.209, Ed King, Barbara Keen, Dan and Sheryl Beamish Closest to the Pin #5 Women: Vicki Cornille – 20'8" / Men: John Hoetker – 5'8" #15 Women: Pat Byron – 9'8" / Men: Bob Miller – 4'5" #16 Team: 1A, Dave Funston, Denise Strum, Charles Craven and Paula Thompson – 3'10" The DARWIN AWARD goes to Team#18, Bruce Dalfonso, Connie Vanderbyl, Ron Brown and Debbie Johnson for their failure to place their official score card into the provided Styrofoam box designated and clearly marked as SCORECARD DEPOSIT BOX. Jack and Jill's next contest is set for Thursday, June 8. This will be our second two-flight event in the series, "A&B Format." As with all Jack and Jill events, you DO NOT have to be a member of either the Men's or Women's Golf Clubs to play. Just pick up your sticks and join us for the fun and friendly competition.
