| THE COLONY NEWS | JULY 2023 | 19 By Greg Hill DON'T FORGET! Here comes the parade! One of the most exciting events of the year at The Colony is the July 1st Patriotic Pup, Car, and Golf Cart Parade. The parade is an annual event that takes place in July, to celebrate the country's independence and to bring the community together. It is a fun and festive celebration of the country's independence, featuring a variety of decorated pups, cars, and golf carts decked out in patriotic colors and themes. Residents of The Colony spend time preparing their vehicles for the parade, with many choosing to incorporate dog-themed decorations to honor man's best friend. The parade route winds its way through the community, with residents lining the streets to cheer on the participants and take in the festive atmosphere. It's followed by an after-party featuring margaritas and a taco truck, providing participants with the opportunity to relax and socialize with their neighbors after the excitement of the parade. So, decorate those carts and pets and yourselves (if you're so inclined) and meet in the Clubhouse parking lot on July 1, at 4 pm for the judging. The parade starts at 5 pm! I have had terrific response to my request last month for gently used ball gowns, tuxedos, fancy formal accessories (purses, cummerbunds, dressy shoes, etc.) in preparation for the Marine Corps Birthday Balls held throughout the Base at Camp Pendleton on Nov. 10. The gowns and tuxes are offered free at an open house sponsored by the Camp Pendleton YMCA for the Marine spouses who cannot afford to purchase a tux or ball gown for these special events. I have already filled my car a few times (remember this is written early in June to make a deadline), and it looks like I may exceed that in July. I know we have many new residents who might have some items to donate. I will pick them up at your home and deliver them to Camp Pendleton, where the "Y" has set up a showroom for display and distribution of your beautiful finery. Because the word is out about the Pendleton gown giveaway, Marine Corps Bases in Twentynine Palms and Yuma will also be receiving gowns from this event. The YMCA is an IRS recognized 501c3 not-for-profit public charity. I will be away for part of July, so don't be disappointed if I don't return your call right away. If you haven't hear from me by the end of the month, please call me again. Many have called throughout the year asking when I can pick up these items. It is nice to know that you remember me and the program. The cut-off date for the collection is Friday, Sept. 1. Thank you for your continued support. Please call me at 951-698- 8640 to book your pickup. Ball Gowns & Formal Attire By Rita Nastri
