The Genealogy Club will be meeting on Tuesday, July 11, at 1 pm in the Annex. The topic will be "Using Genealogical Forms," which will be presented by our vice president, Mary Ann Mericle. This will be in preparation for our meeting in September which will focus on problem resolution. Mary Ann will be discussing pedigree charts, family group sheets, and building time lines. These are important forms that help when researching your family history and trying to break those "brick walls." Visitors are always welcome. Our meeting will start promptly at 1 pm, so please sign in at 12:45 pm. If you have any questions, please call Lennie Martin, president, at (503) 269-9987. Genealogy By Kathleen Brown, 951-698-5244 28 | THE COLONY NEWS | JULY 2023 | Our book for July is e Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. This is a fascinating read about a family whose father takes them to the Belgian Congo. Many adventures and hardships unfold to show a full panorama to Europe meets Africa. It's a nail-biting culture clash at its finest. The book readers will meet on Wednesday, July 14, at 10:30 am in the Meeting Room. For those who like to read ahead, the August book selection is the Extraordinary Life of an Ordinary Man by Paul Newman. Book Readers By Judy Slane, 760-798-5398 Experts say that learning to play an instrument is very good for the brain, and strummers say that playing the ukulele makes them happy. That is a great combination — help your brain and be happy. Come visit us any Friday at 1 pm in the Annex to see for yourself! We will teach you this easy instrument and you can sing and laugh with us. You can call me for more information. Strummers By Judy Moore, 949-468-7375 On Wednesday, July 19, we will be tasting the wines of South America. Our dinner will consist of chicken in a Spanish sauce, cilantro rice, black beans, green salad and dessert. If the Auditorium is closed for renovations, this event will be held on the patio. The trip includes bus transportation, wine tasting, a tour of the cave and distillery, and lunch. Our lunch will be provided by the Oak Mountain Cave Café. Tickets will be available in the Atrium on Monday, July 24, from 10 am to noon and again from 5 to 7 pm. Ticket price per person is $60. Classic Buzz will be the entertainment for our Sept. 20 event.
