| THE COLONY NEWS | JULY 2023 | 3 From the Desk of Chuck Gordon By Chuck Gordon, Treasurer Please allow me to personally thank you for the opportunity to serve on the HOA Board and, specifically, as your treasurer. It has been a labor of love and I appreciate the response and encouragement I have received from many of you over the past nine months. I am truly fortunate to work with the professional and supportive people on the Board, Jim Morgan and our HOA staff, as well as the members of our Finance Advisory Committee (FAC). As you may know, the FAC is composed of seven volunteers, including me. Besides the annual preparation of The Colony budget, the FAC is responsible for the monthly review of The Colony financial statements (financials). These financials are initially prepared by the Associa Accounting Department. Typically, financials include around 15 separate sections or reports and add up to around 180 pages of documents. It can take each FAC member at least a few hours to review. The FAC has a well-rounded composition of talents and experience for the task at hand. We have two accomplished CPAs, an attorney at law, three diverse business professionals, and, finally, an auditor (me). Below is a brief snapshot of the volunteers, some of whom you may personally know, who are the members of this most important committee: * Shirley Broz: CPA. Oversaw a school district in excess of 25,000 students, and was a college professor of Accounting for Master's Degree programs. * Mary Ellen Glantz: CPA. Managed the accounting of two major Las Vegas resorts and casinos, The Gold Coast and South Point. * Wendell Jackson: Accomplished insurance and banking professional. On the Board of Directors of various organizations. * Bob Miller: Business professional. CEO of a large clinic of physicians. Administrator of multiple physician facilities. * Paul Nelson: Operating and General Manager of multi- million dollar corporations. * Gerald (Jerry) Stein: Esteemed attorney at law. As you can see, the review of our financials is in very capable hands. As your treasurer, I have made it a priority to deliver information to the community that is informative and hopefully easily understood. Interpreting financial data, as you may all know, can be daunting at times. Presenting it in a simple yet understandable manner can be even more daunting. Next time you see one of our FAC members, please feel free to say hi, or thank them for their service. I certainly thank and appreciate them. Have a wonderful Fourth of July holiday!
