FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2023 63
In last month's Breeze,
we reported on our
central California trip.
Actually, we only reported
on day one due to the
Breeze article submission
deadline. Well I am
happy to say now that
days two, three, and four
were pretty much perfect,
as motorcycle rides go.
We started out on day
two from Kernville on
our way to San Simeon.
Terry Humble led the way,
followed by Jim Ayala, Joe
Bert, Scott Snyder, and
Bonnie Pollett. Except for Jim forgetting to refuel in Kernville (in
Jim's feeble defense, everyone else filled up the night before and no
one told him), all went very well. About half way to San Simeon Jim
rolled into a gas station, nearly on fumes, and filled up. It was smooth
sailing after that.
On day three, we headed down the coast on Highway 1 all the way
to Jalama Beach for lunch, then we rolled into Solvang for the night.
If you haven't been to
Jalama Beach, you are
really missing out. It's
a beautiful 14-mile
drive from Highway 1,
just south of Lompoc.
Once you get there, you
will find a little café that
serves up some really
good food.
The last day of the
ride always ends up
having to get on some
busy freeways. It just
can't be avoided but
we got pretty lucky
on this ride. The only
congested freeway was Interstate 5 but, fortunately, we were on it for
just a few miles from the 126 to the 14. Once on the 14, we headed
for Pearblossom and got home via the 15. Traffic was fairly light and
all those car and truck drivers behaved themselves. Any time you get
home from a multi-day motorcycle ride and reflect that we couldn't
have had better weather, camaraderie, and scenery, well, you just have
to tell yourself that life is good. . ~ Jim Ayala
