My friend, Judy and I had plans to do who knows what, but she called to cancel. She had forgotten she had promised to take her mother to bingo, sheepishly she said "unless you want to join us?" "OK, I'm up for a new adventure." Oh my, was it an adventure. All these "old" ladies (remember I was 25) in the church meeting room, table upon table. Daubers of every description, rabbits' feet of every color, dolls, stuffed toys, horse shoes, and dozens of other items I do not remember all arranged perfectly to outline each lady's personal space. From what I remember there were no men in this room. ere were 10 or 12 cards laid out perfectly so all the numbers could be easily seen. I was in awe. Judy's mother was in heaven, her friends yelling and waving "over here, over here… we have your usual seat waiting for you." My jaw must have been on the floor, this was a new world for me, but Judy just kept pushing me along, "come on, we have to get set up!" I remember there was a discussion of how many cards I should play, somehow it was decided I should buy the minimum amount, I think it was six. Whatever it was, it was a very wise choice, because I was totally lost from the start. I had one color of dauber, but my card had not only my color but three other colors as well, one from the lady to my right, the lady to my le, as well as the lady sitting across from me. I just wasn't fast enough for these bingo whizzes. ey had the maximum number of cards, and still had time to play not only their cards, but mine as well. When I missed a number, plop went their dauber on my card. My card was technicolor. By the end of the evening, I was exhausted. All the ladies had advised, mostly "you are just too slow, play more, you'll get better." I never won any jackpots that night. For that matter I have never – ever, won any jackpots. Nor do I set up a personal perimeter with good luck items. I do not have luck numbers either. I still have problems keeping up with the caller. I do sit in my usual seat though, but that is because I dole out the jackpot money to the lucky winners. Which again, has never been me. Maybe I need to rethink the good luck charms and luck numbers thing. Any suggestions? Next Bingo is July 15. 50/50 sales start about 6 pm, doors open at 6:30 pm. Who knows, maybe I'll win. Come join us and see if my dry spell is broken. Also, Bingo is Aug. 19, doors open at 6:30 pm, as well as the aernoon of Sept. 9 when doors open at 1 pm.
