| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JULY 2023 | 3 Happy birthday, America! July is a month of fun and celebration and here at Sun Lakes, we begin with an all-day Fourth of July celebration. The theme for 2023 is "Let Freedom Ring." This year, our celebration kicks off on Tues., July 4 with pomp and ceremony in front of the Main Clubhouse at 9:45 am followed by our annual Golf Cart Parade. This is your opportunity to cruise the 'hood in your delightfully decorated golf cart, classic car, or golf cart float and possibly win a prize in one of our many prize categories. Plan to come down and participate in all the fun plus food, drink, games and camaraderie! Our country was formed by people with similar values working together toward a common goal. This formula is a proven success and applies to any group that wants to thrive. We are grateful for our veterans now and throughout history, plus those who have stood strong for democracy and the American way of life, and all who have contributed to the magnificence of our country. Thank you! Summer is a time for families, vacations, fun in the sun, and poolside relaxation, and we have been working to get the pools ready for you. Here are some of the pool enhancements we've initiated: • As requested by a member, a new ice machine has been installed at the Main Clubhouse pool for your enjoyment. • The decking at both the Main and North Clubhouse pools has been refurbished. • Poolside service has been activated at the Main Clubhouse pool on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 3 pm. The pools aren't the only areas getting spruced up for the summer. The bunker project on the front nine holes of the Championship Course is complete and the rest of the course has had its annual refurbish of fairways, greens, and the rough. Artistic Maintenance, along with the golf course maintenance staff, have been trimming trees and shrubs on both courses as well as in the common areas. They are also replacing the plants that did not survive our long, hard, cold winter. This is being done on schedule and will continue throughout the summer. They may not be replacing every plant but one of their focuses is to bring in more color. The Common Area Advisory Committee is partnering with Artistic Maintenance in plant choices. The Dog Park research continues and is in the resident interview process. There are several locations suggested and the Ad Hoc committee is going door-to-door to get comments from the residents who live near to each location. As you all know, last year the Master Board approved the renovation of the tennis courts on the North side to create a state-of-the-art Pickleball complex. The Pickleball Club put on an exhibition during Charity Week that included participation by Pickleball players from nearby communities. The club was hoping that 20-25 other groups would respond. Instead, they had a whopping response from 64 Clubs — more than double what they anticipated! Pickleball is the up-and-coming sport for 55+ communities and our courts are obviously in the "Best in Show" zone! The Master Board continues to review vendor contracts. In the past two years, we have renegotiated the Community Patrol and Landscape Maintenance contracts and are in the process of reviewing and updating the management contract. All of these contracts automatically renew and it is our fiduciary responsibility to make sure they are renewing in a way that best serves our community. "Good attitudes among players do not guarantee a team's success, but bad attitudes guarantee its failure." John C. Maxwell ~ Bob Walter, Randy Robbins, Beverly Simmons, Lori Hazelton, Gary Burkel From the Master Board Want to get your voice heard by the Board of Directors? GO TO THE LISTENING SESSION! They are held the first Monday of the month at 3:30 pm in the Sandwedge. Plus… there are cookies!
