In June, the Pass Action Group (PAG) legal team received notification from the court that Judge Craig Riemer would soon be retiring. Due to this, effective June 26, 2023, Judge Harold W. Hopp has now been assigned to our court case. We had a short window to contest the appointment of Judge Hopp. Our attorney, Kevin Bundy, saw no reason that we should challenge the appointment. Our volunteer legal committee concurred with this decision. As of the time of this writing our hearing date will remain Nov. 17, 2023. Judge Hopp is a well-respected jurist initially appointed by then California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2005. He has subsequently been reelected numerous times. He has overseen numerous complex California Environmental Quality Act cases in his career. In June, the PAG held a town hall in the Ballroom. Attendees were given information regarding our case and financial position, which is strong, in the event of an appeal by either party we need some additional funds. Donations continue to be accepted. We would like to once again thank Dorrie Gartzke and the entire community, for the efforts in recycling. Not only are we keeping recyclable things out of the landfills, but we are also strengthening our financial picture. Dorrie has taken on the project primarily on her own, but she has some dedicated helpers on trips to the recycle center. The Pass Action Group continues to keep an eye on proposed legislation that may assist us should the judge rule that the city and developers must resubmit efforts to get Banning Point built. UPCOMING EVENT: On Sat., July 29, the Pass Action Group will set up at the Sun Lakes driving range prior to the Music Under the Stars. This is intended as a social event and there is no charge. Bring your golf cart and chairs and chat with the PAG leadership and fellow supporters. We will be having some fun events, games, dessert bar, etc. prior to the music starting. At the time of this writing, we do not yet know which band will be performing. Come interact in a casual atmosphere and celebrate the strength and resolve of this community in the battle against this atrocity.
