| LIFE IN SOLERA | JULY 2023 | 7 Solera Library Summer is here and the Solera Library is where you can find books to take on any trip or to the beach or to just read at home on the patio. Come in and peruse our collection of James Patterson, Nora Roberts, Tom Clancy and many more. If you are a reader of cozy mysteries, there is a full section of those. Our large print collection has grown and has many popular titles and authors. Thanks to all the residents of Solera for their donations to the library. As most of you know, our library is small so we cannot keep everything you donate. If you have a large donation, please call me at (714) 319-2576 before you bring anything into the clubhouse. Please do not bring in magazines older than three to four months as we only have our magazine rack for storage (we do discard magazines that do not meet our criteria so please check the publication date which is posted on the bookcase next to the magazine rack; it would help our volunteers if you would discard your own magazines instead of us having to do so). We do check publication and copyright dates on all materials donated because of our space limitations. Please remember that if you donate books to the library, we have the right not to keep them though we do try and find homes for them by donating them to Jesse Donart for Support the Troops or to the organization below. Many of our residents have their own personal libraries and want to find a home for their books. If you have old textbooks, etc. Please take them to the blue box that looks like a book return container at the Beaumont Library District at California and Eighth Street in Beaumont (it has a "visit discoverbooks.com" label on the front). They resell, redistribute, and recycle all books donated. I have met many of our residents at the new resident meetings and in the library itself and enjoy talking books with everyone. Please feel free to talk to our volunteers that work in the library or if you have any questions about Solera's library, please call me at (714) 319- 2576. Recently books have been donated that had water damage and no title page. If you spill something on a book and want to keep that book, place the book in an enclosed bag and put it in the freezer, leaving it for several days while the book "dries." The book should be usable and without mold. If a book has mold, please discard it because it can cause physical problems to you and your family. If a book is missing the title page or cover the book was probably stolen and we destroy that book because it is not saleable. I hope that the above information will assist you in caring for your own library. ~ Margarett Rogers
