One of the greatest movie stars of the past 75 years, he takes the cover off his life and covers everything: his traumatic childhood, his career, his intimate life with Joanne Woodward. e book is insightful, revealing, surprising and sometimes painful. But with his searing honesty, you come away from reading it with a greater understanding of who he was as a person and celebrity. e Book Readers will meet on Wednesday, Aug. 9 at 10:30 am in the Meeting Room. For those of you who like to read ahead, the September book selection is Born a Crime by Trevor Noah. Member dinners are $18.50 per person all months except December. Guest dinners are $20 all months (no guests in December). First time visitors are just $12. Our upcoming schedule is as follows: August: Canceled (Auditorium closed) Sept. 8: Checks due Sept. 1; BBQ pork ribs Oct. 9: Checks due Oct. 2; Chicken Marsala Nov.3: Checks due Nov. 6; Turkey Dec. 11: Checks due Dec. 4; Prime rib/salmon Jan. 8: Checks due Dec. 29; Chicken Cordon Bleu Feb. 12: Checks due Feb. 5: Lasagna For all menus, vegetarian entrees (specify veggie) or grilled chicken breast are available. Must be ordered through the Treasurer. To cancel or change your dinner reservation, you must call the Treasurer, Mary Dettmers, at (951) 698-3171 by the Monday prior to the dinner (the check due date). On Wednesday, Aug. 16, we will be boarding a coach and heading out to Oak Mountain Winery. Our lunch will consist of mushroom chicken, chimichurri tri-tip, chicken alfredo pesto pasta, asparagus and mashed potatoes. ere will be a wine tasting and a tour of the Oak Mountain Distillery as well as the only wine cave in Southern California. As this event will be held indoors, you don't have to worry about the August heat. On Wednesday, Sept. 20, Classic Buzz will be entertaining us. Back by popular demand, it is a well-known classic rock band that plays many local events. Dinner will be BBQ ribs, potato salad, coleslaw and dessert. Tickets will go on sale on Monday, Aug. 21 in the Atrium from 10 am to noon and from 5 to 7 pm. is event will be in the Auditorium and the ticket price is $30. On Wednesday, Oct. 18, Akash Winery will be presenting their fine wines to us. More information will be in the September issue of e Colony News.
