Have you ever walked straight through the Colony Clubhouse, past the gym and hair salon, all the way to the exit doors? Okay, good. But have you ever looked outside those doors and noticed the long, narrow court with what appears to be green grass? If not, let me tell you a bit about BOCCE BALL. Bocce is an ancient game with roots in the Roman Empire. It is now considered the third most played sport in the world! You play in teams of two, with the object of the game being to roll your bocce balls closer to the pallino ball than your opponent. Enough of the rules… Most importantly, bocce is one of the most popular games at e Colony. e ursday aernoon group, headed by Jeanne Bender, meets at 5 pm and plays until whenever. ere can be 12 players (sometimes more) that show up — and Jeanne tells me that everyone is welcome to join. It is as much a social gathering as a game. It's played year 'round, and food, drink, socializing and fun are the norm. Win or lose, it really doesn't matter. Two players, Vanessa Vinson and Randy McKee, decided to celebrate the game and players recently by hosting a "Bocce Brunch." About 40 people joined in the fun! Homemade dishes and adult beverages were enjoyed by all. Bocce was played throughout the brunch, with everyone cheering each other on. e conversation was great, the weather was perfect, and a good time was had by all. ank you, Vanessa and Randy! Want to join in? Bocce is played on ursdays, NOW from 5 to 7 pm. For more information, contact Jeanne Bender at 949-295-5412. Bocce By Valorie Hillerich Has it been a long time since you have played ping pong? We hear this over and over, yet all of us in our club have started playing again and improved our skills. It's never too late to pick up a paddle again. So come down and join us. We provide the equipment and a positive and supportive environment. We play in the Annex every Wednesday from 4 to 6 pm and every Friday from 3 to 6 pm. Ping Pong By Lisa Schrader | THE COLONY NEWS | AUGUST 2023 | 35 A Game For All Seasons, Played For All Reasons!
