Here's hoping you all are enjoying this fabulous summer weather. We could not have asked for a better climate to host our 4th of July Parade. ere were 45 Golf Carts with one bicycle rider (Phyllis) and her furry friend making their way along the route. It was great to see all the driveway cheerleaders waving flags, drinking coffee, Mimosas, and cheering their neighbors on, as the colorful parade progressed through the streets. ank you to Securitas for sending us three officers that made sure we transitioned the streets safely. Arriving back at the Clubhouse, residents enjoyed a hot-dog BBQ and entertainment by the Musicstation. A number of residents dressed up for the occasion and danced the aernoon away on the Palm Court. A lunch and lecture by Tri-City Medical Center is being supported by our AV Committee volunteers on urs., Aug. 3 at 11 am. Our AV Technician, Anthony Scalise accepted another job opportunity and the AV Crew has rallied together to keep the wheels in motion until a replacement has been found. e Recreation Department appreciates all the AV resident volunteers and their willingness to provide the support to many of the programs scheduled. ank you from all of us! Just to add a commercial plug for AV by saying "they are always looking for dedicated volunteers to join their team." It's fun, they laugh, and they learn new skills together. At this time, we are making plans for the Movie on the Green coming to this community on Fri., Aug. 4. Tickets are available to secure a spot on the grass. Please bring lawn chairs, blankets, snacks will be provided for a cost of $5 each. e jets will be heard in the hills of OHCC as Tom Cruise takes the pilot's seat for this top-rated film Top Gun- Maverick. is will be a first for the Green, as last year we had it around the pool on a hot summer August night. Many people enjoyed dipping in the pool and dancing to the music of the classic film Mama Mia. We are bringing back one of our Ice Cream Socials this month on Tues., Aug. 22 from 2 to 3 pm. is event was always a popular one for a get-together in the aernoon and a way to cool off during the summer. e staff set up the bar area with toppings to make a sundae and residents make their way through the line. No charge, just bring a smile! August will begin our reservation process for 2024. e Clubs will receive the information to secure their two special events at their next Presidents' Meeting on Mon., Aug. 7. Meanwhile Lisa and Estee will begin inputting all HOA Business, Recreation Department, and scheduled Performance dates as requested, in order of priority. Clubs come next, then, classes and interest groups follow. Private rentals can be requested, usually, aer mid-December. e task is a big one, with inputting over 12,000 plus reservations. We certainly hope the new Lanai will be made available for our 2024 reservations. e offering of an upgraded venue for all to enjoy allows us to offer a bigger space to hold the larger events. Please plan on joining us for our "Concert and Dancing on the Green" on Sat., Sept. 2 at 4 pm. e Golf Course will be closed to include the plans for a "Walk on the Golf Course Day!" Two great events in one day, an eblast will be sent out with the all the details. Bring lawn chairs, food, drinks, and friends to the Course to enjoy the Corvelles. is event will show why you chose to live in OHCC. Put on those walking shoes in the morning, go swimming at lunch, and let's dance until dusk on a hot summer September night. 18 | OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2023 | Recreation News By Chris Bessey, Recreation Director Regular shuttle rider wants to share his story By Robert Jones Hallelujah! For this OHCC, non-driving resident a small miracle happened recently! I was wanting to go to EOS for my regular workout, but alas, my regular driver was otherwise engaged. I discovered and used the OHCC free shuttle to take me to EOS in the center off Cannon and Lake Ave. I was picked up at my house and deposited at the gym by Bob, our friendly driver, with a "see you in an hour and fieen." I got a good workout in and then met the shuttle at our appointed time and place so Bob could whisk me back to my home. is is a free amenity for residents that I find unbelievable! All you have to do is register at the front desk the day before. ere are schedules available with different locations on Tuesdays and ursdays, but if you have a special need (as I did) that is in the area, it can be arranged. And don't forget that if you need to do some shopping, Bob can help you unload some bags at your driveway. Let's face it. e shuttle is amazingly helpful, especially for non-driving residents. A Special Shuttle Trip
