| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2023 | 31 There will be no August event for the 80s Plus Social Club due to room scheduling conflict, so it's a great time to remind everyone what we're all about. The 80s Plus Club was originally designed for folks 80 years old and older but we have evolved to include people of all ages. We have found our average age has come down quite a bit over the years. I don't think we can "Sun Lakes legally" exclude people based on their ages and we think that's entirely appropriate for a senior community. We have a gathering once a month which includes a catered meal, some first-rate entertainment, great social time and the volunteers are there to pamper you. We've been able to keep our prices down to $16 per person. However, for November and December for our holiday dinners this year they must go to $20 for those two months. Our events begin at 3 pm celebrating birthdays and new additions to our group, any announcements, then entertainment and the meals begin before 4 pm. Our attendance each month is very close to the capacity at the South Clubhouse and it makes for a very festive and interacting group. Come join us once to see if you might enjoy our group. If you do, you need to join for the second time you attend. Our dues are $10 a year. Our July gathering featured Fusion with their incredible patriotic music. They incorporated the Pledge of Allegiance in their medley of all the armed forces theme songs so it was interactive. The attendees stood a few times throughout the program so it was tough to figure out what was a standing ovation and what was genuine patriotism. Some were brought to tears and the program touched their souls. Many people mentioned to me afterwards what an appropriate and moving performance it was for our Independence Day celebration. Thank you Susan Fitzpatrick, Sandy Haines, Nancy Ford and Bruce Dills … you really are fantastic! As mentioned, there will be no August gathering and our September event is Sept. 2, featuring Generations. Most know how popular this group is, so it is likely that it will be sold out. Get your checks for $16 per person to Donna Harrington at 5393 Riviera for your reservations before Aug. 27. That's the regular deadline if we are not sold out. If sold out, we will remove the payment box and you'll see a note advising "sold out." We're always at the South Clubhouse and people begin arriving at 2:30 pm to get checked in and get their seats.
