| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2023 | 33 Our name has officially been changed to the ICC Dinner Dance Club and we are exactly what our title says we are. We get together for dinner and a dance on the second Thursday of each month. Hot August nights have arrived and the club's next event is scheduled for Thurs., Aug. 10 in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Doors will open at 5:30 pm and American Made will be on hand to play the music we enjoy dancing to. Sign-ups for the August event will be held on Aug. 3 at the South Clubhouse beginning at 3:30 pm. Meal selection will be made at the time you sign-up. Please note the dinner price for members is $30 and $32 for guests. If you miss the Aug. 3 date to sign up and want to attend the dinner and dance, contact Donna Leone at (951) 797-0832 no later than the following Sunday afternoon. If you are unable to attend the event after signing up, you can request a take-out meal box. Contact Ann Hoefert no later than 2 pm on the day of the event at (909) 553-3292 and she will make arrangements for you to pick up your meal in the Bus Room at 6:15 pm on the night of the event. New members are always welcome and memberships for 2023 are $25 per person per calendar year. Are you new to Sun Lakes or a long-time resident and would like to attend one of our events to find out what our monthly dinner and dances are like? We have a "try before you buy" opportunity available to Sun Lakes residents who have not been members in the past. Previous members do not qualify for this "try before you buy" opportunity. So give the ICC Dinner Dance Club a try; you will find members to be a friendly group of people who enjoy socializing, dining and dancing to live music each month. For more information about the club, contact Evelyn Hawkins at (951) 845-7199, Martie Steggell at (951) 769-3217 or Donna Leone at (951) 797-0832. ICC Dinner Dance Club Makua Hula Hawaiian Dancers The Makua Hula Hawaiian Dancers of Sun Lakes have been performing for different groups, organizations, and clubs within the Inland Empire and within Sun Lakes. In support of The American Cancer Society Relay for Life mission to save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer, the Makua Hula Hawaiian Dancers of Sun Lakes were honored to partake in the event in Beaumont on June 24. Chelle Hyder, a Makua Hula dancer, in contact with Cathi Hill, Senior Development Manager for the American Cancer Society, were able to coordinate this opportunity for the Makua group. Performing Hula Hawaiian dances to songs such as e Prayer, Just a Closer Walk with ee, E Ku'u Sweet Lei Poina Ole, and Ka Loki to name just a few, the Makua dancers were well received by the audience. Our Makua dancers also had the opportunity to entertain residents at the Legacy Acute Rehabilitation Center in San Bernardino during their Hawaiian themed event. Anyone interested in learning more about Hawaiian Hula dancing are welcomed to join the Makua Hula Dancers every Wednesday at the North Clubhouse from 10 am to 12 pm. No previous dance experience is necessary. If you are interested in having the Makua Hula dancers perform for your event, or would like more information about our group, contact Perla Williams at (951) 467-833 or pearlyshellsdancer@gmail.com.
