The club has screenings on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. We screen films you won't find at the big cineplexes: documentaries, indie films, foreign films and other little gems that don't get wide release. Our first screening for the month, on Sunday, Aug. 13 at 6 pm, is the film Living (UK 2022, 1 hr. 42 min., English). Here is a brief description from IMDb.com: "Overwhelmed at work and lonely at home, a council bureaucrat's life takes a heartbreaking turn when a medical diagnosis tells him his time is short. Influenced by a local decadent and a vibrant woman, he continues to search for meaning until a simple revelation gives him a purpose to create a legacy for the next generation." Our second screening for the month, on Sunday, Aug. 27 at 6 pm, is the film A Love Song (USA 2022, 1 hr.21 min., English). Here is a brief description from IMDb.com: "At a campground in the rural west, a middle-aged widow waits for her former boyfriend, who is a widower, to arrive, uncertain of his intentions while bashful about hers." All of our screenings are followed by lively discussion about the film; we'd love to have you join us. A small town in California is attacked by martians, beginning a worldwide invasion. H.G. Wells' classic novel is brought to life in this tale of alien invasion. The residents of a small town in California are excited when a flaming meteor lands in the hills but their joy is tempered somewhat when they discover that it has passengers who are not very friendly. The martians unchain a direct assault to our planet, with hundreds of invulnerable ships. The invasion takes place all over the world, and all the major cities are destroyed, one after another — even the atomic bomb can't stop them. But if the humans can't beat them, who can? Maybe something MUCH smaller … e War of the Worlds was a Halloween episode of the radio series The Mercury Theatre on the air directed and narrated by Orson Welles as an adaptation of H. G. Wells's novel e War of the Worlds (1898) that was performed and broadcast live at 8 pm ET on October 30, 1938 over the CBS Radio Network.
