FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | AUGUST 2023 65
TOPS
The long sunny days of summer are here at last. TOPS (Take Off Pounds
Sensibly) members took advantage of those days and added an outdoor walk to
our class. One group was favored with a wildlife show as a turtle, rabbit, quail,
and other critters crossed their paths.
It's easy these days to grab a pair of walking shoes and head out first thing in
the morning to enjoy the cooler part of the day. Bonus points if you have a four-
legged friend to join you. A picnic in a nearby park with healthy food options
is also easy to do. A blanket and a bag with fresh veggies, hummus, low-fat
cheese, and some crackers can be great while sitting in a chair outdoors in the
fresh air reading a book. Gardening is a super way to use up a few calories and
provides us with fresh food. Easy-to-grow herbs can be a delightful addition to
summer eating. Biking and swimming are also easy and pleasant in our dry,
warm southern California August weather.
In July, we filled cups with potting soil to grow some of our own herbs. We
were cautioned not to expect germination overnight. Just as weight loss happens
slowly, so does seed growth.
You may find that a group like TOPS can help you as well. We meet on Tuesdays
at 8:30 am in the Ballroom. For more information, call Andi Henderson at (918)
