52 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | AUGUST 2023 Warm weather is finally here. The Pickleball courts have been busy with all the great weather at both morning and evening court times. Our Pickleball group is very active both on and off the courts. Once you learn to play the game, many tournaments can be found locally. Recently our neighbors at Sun Lakes held a charity event. Several of our players participated in this worthwhile event, and Sun Lakes raised over $2,000 to give to various charities. Photos show some of our Four Seasons players who participated in the tournament and a few of the winners. Karen Rose and partner earned a second-place medal in mixed doubles; Kelly Vucinic and Julie McGrath (not shown) took second place in women's doubles. Players and spectators enjoyed the light competition, camaraderie, and making new friends on and off the court. Four Seasons Pickleball group play is Monday through Saturday 7 to 11 am, and evening play sometimes early evenings starting at about 6 pm. Player-development classes are on Saturday morning at 9:30 for those interested in learning the fun sport of pickleball. Come on out and visit with the players and watch all the action. There is always someone friendly that would love to talk to you about the game. ~ Yundell Montalbo-Linton, yundell@aol.com Pickleball The newly formed Spin 'n Slam Club held its first table tennis tournament on July 1. Our heartiest appreciation goes out to Rony Tordesillas for organizing this terrific event and setting up the matches for both singles and doubles. Congratulations go out to Four Seasons newcomer Steve Rodriguez for taking first place in the singles tournament. Steve plays with anti- spin rubber on his ping pong paddle, which is completely impervious to any incoming spin generated by his opponents. Definitely not for the faint of heart. Rony took second place and yours truly walked away with the bronze. In doubles play, I was fortunate to team up with Brent Stewart to take first place, with Steve and Rony taking second, and Mitch (The Reach) Harmon and Perry White coming in third. Organizing tournaments not only provides the opportunity to stir up everyone's competitive juices, but tends to bring all ping pong lovers together in same room in a rare social gathering. Regardless of the outcomes, a great time was had by all. The Spin 'n Slam Club meets at the Courts on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 10:30 am to laugh with friends, play a great game and get a terrific workout. Everyone is welcome. See you at the tables. ~ Bob Rubenstein, brube88@gmail.com Spin 'N Slam Table Tennis Doubles Tournament: (L-R) Mitch Harmon, Bob Rubenstein, Steve Rodriguez, and Rony Tordesillas; not pictured Perry White and Brent Stewart Singles Tournament: (L-R) Bob Rubenstein, Steve Rodriguez, and Rony Tordesillas Shelley Allard, Julie McGrath, Mike McGrath, Yana Whittinghill, Kevin Van Den Oever, and Dan Anguiano David Martin, Mike Mcgrath, Dan Anguiano, Lorenzo Amaya, and Steve Roa Karen Rose (L) with two fellow non-resident competitors
