Here begins the last quarter of 2023. e Recreation Department is beginning the reservation process this month. Forms for securing 2024 reservations will be made available to all groups based on the established priorities. With all HOA business and Recreation Department activity inputted first, then Community- wide performances, Clubs, Interest Groups/Classes/Card Games, and last our Private Room Rentals. e staff will do their best to keep everyone informed, as we move along in this process. Check with the Front Desk for more information. e Movie on the Golf Course Night was first for OHCC. We were able to inflate the 55-foot inflatable screen into the air but had to wait for the wind to die down. Some of the clubs are well aware of the wind that comes through that corridor, in the later part of the aernoons. Once the sun set, the projector was set up to the back of the screen, sending the movie to the front so the audience could see it. Once those jets started to roar, the audio rattled just as if we were on the deck of a carrier. Our thanks to Cindy and Martin Blair for providing Top Gun memorabilia from their restaurant Kansas City BBQ, located on Harbor Drive in San Diego. It was a special touch and so appreciated by our winners. ank you to our AV volunteers: Bob Herrmann (Chair), Joan Bivin, Myrna Weber, and CSC (Vice Chair) Judy Harris for their assistance. We are looking forward to our Labor Day Weekend "Concert on the Green and Walk on the Golf Course" Day, Sept. 2. Bring lawn chairs, drinks, dinner, etc. Guests are welcome. We will have canopies set up on the Lanai pad with tables and chairs. It's informal, fun, and a time to bring friends. A dance floor will be made available for those who want to dance into the evening. e Community Services Committee (CSC) has put together an informative panel of professionals to host an aernoon discussion called "Staying Independent and Safe as We Age." is will include the Oceanside Police Department, Cathy Ellis with Senior Options, and Aging & Independence. is event will take place on urs., Sept. 14 from 2 to 4 pm in Abravanel Hall. Come for an informative aernoon, including light refreshments. is is just a friendly head's up to all our new residents. Do not be surprised to see neighbors setting up on the grass at 3 pm the day before, yes, that is what we have witnessed in past years. It is a site to see, kind of like a gold rush, but more of a land rush! Our Fall Bazaar was to be held this month, but it was postponed until Sat., Oct. 21. We will be taking sign-ups beginning Mon., Sept. 11. e event will include those selling their cras and those getting rid of their used treasures. With the recent closure of the Clubhouse, the Jewish holidays, and our craers needing time to create their inventory, it was the certainly the right decision. e Tri- City Medical Center Team will provide another lunch and lecture to OHCC. e August lecture was so well attended with over 230 participants. In October, the topic is "Diabetes Management and Personalized Healthcare." Tickets will be available for the lunch reservation on Tues., Sept. 5, note the start time, as it is listed at 11:30 am in the enclosed flyer. We are so appreciative of the partnership we have shared with Tri-City Medical Center over the years and their lunches are good, too! Here's a plug for our upcoming Water Volleyball game where the residents try to outplay the staff. is is planned for Fri., Sept. 29, and each year it appears that the residents overcome, and age does not seem to matter. Camaraderie, practicing together, and the retired life seems to lend itself to having the advantage. No matter how hard we try, the OHCC Water Volleyball Regulars seem to prevail. Come by and enjoy the laughter and observe Charlie Payne's sky-high serves, so incredible! e weather is still wonderful in Southern California, so get out and enjoy a walk around the Leisure Village loop, only about 2 miles. Stop by the Clubhouse, grab some coffee, and begin another beautiful day!
