What's in a name? In our club's case, there's a whole lot more
than just "sewing."
Our club considers itself a broad group of creative people that
enjoy working with yarn, fabrics, beads, and anything else that
the members wish to try their hand at. We make garments,
scarves, hats, pillows, purses, quilts, afghans, blankets, stockings,
ornaments, and bags that organize… thus the "ETC" in our name.
We oen hear from residents, "I don't know how to sew," or "I
don't sew anymore." ose thoughts should not keep you from
looking into our projects. ere's usually something for everyone,
and if you've thought of something you think we'd be interested in,
please suggest it – you might be surprised.
is month, our "free to members" classes are offering a
beginning-level knitting project – slippers to be held on urs.,
Sept. 21. On Sat., Sept. 23, we will be having a demonstration on
how to use a serger. ere will be sign-up sheets in the sewing
room and information on materials required for the classes. As
usual, the classes are from 9:30 am to noon, in the Sewing Room.
Don't forget about our "rideshare" service to meetings and
workshops that are held in our Clubhouse. If you are interested in
attending and have no transportation, please call Sharon Philippe
(760) 500-3086. We have a list of volunteers who will be happy to
get you to and from the event.
If you're interested in just getting together with some smiling
faces, our Kneedlers (knitters) and Hookers (crocheters) gather
on Tuesdays from 3 to 4:30 pm and are always looking for excuses
to practice their knitting and crocheting, and to offer guidance.
Also, on Tuesday evenings (6 to 8 pm) and Fridays (12 to 3 pm)
several quilters, knitters, crocheters and sewers get together for
"Sew & Chats." Both of these gatherings are loosely structured and
help to keep us in touch.
