e Racquet Club got creative when told the Lanai would be unavailable for traditional summer dinner dance events – or any events at all – and we proceeded to plan an outdoor concert for members instead. Long story short, on a warm (but not hot!) July evening, 200+members gathered on the Lanai slab under a dozen pop-up canopies and scores of chairs to listen to live music by the Buckleys, a local music trio, and dance the night away! A good time was definitely had by all in attendance – just ask. Picnic dinners in all forms and flavors created the backdrop for a "just happy to be outside on a beautiful San Diego summer evening" get-together. e live music was divine – just ask the "tree people" in several homes along Galicia who piggybacked on it with their own back patio parties. Party chairs Lori Smith and Linda Cripe are due compliments for the Summer Chill party vibe. Summer is a prolonged season in OHCC. Hot (and unusually humid) weather has made daily pickleball play a little less appealing to some, but the morning drop-ins never fail to attract the diehards, and evening play under the lights allows others the cooler temperatures to play and socialize. How fortunate we are to have such terrific courts! e monthly Saturday Play & Stays –hosted in August by Mary Blackman and Phylis Lemberg, with an assist from Vicki and Rich Komisarek – offered up pickleball play, a juice bar, some cornhole on the lawn, and lots of conversations. You'll hear more about the Aug. 19 pickleball dinking competition in next month's issue. September's focus will be the Wednesday cornhole games – team competition leading up to a final playoff at Game Day. Just another way we are making the most of outdoor play! e Club is gearing up for the October 1st Game Day – second in the series – which debuted last year to rave reviews. is sequel, which will once again spread out behind the Clubhouse, will feature lawn and court games, prizes, TK Burgers food truck – an aernoon in the park with food and fun for Racquet Club members. Tickets go on sale in early September for this 3 to 6 pm event. Don't miss it! We don't sit still in the Racquet Club. Free lessons, drop-ins, social activities. It's not too late to join – just for the fun of it!
