As you know, we had a very dangerous and threatening situation here in Sun Lakes in July. The Highland Fire came frighteningly close to homes on Breckenridge Ave. I'd like to give a shout out to all the responders who protected our community: Banning Fire Department, Banning Police Department, Cal Fire, Securitas, EPAP, and fellow residents who stepped up to assist those who had to evacuate and who had medical needs as the fire crept closer and closer to SLCC. The community came together to assist, protect, and support those in danger. The firefighters on the ground along with air support did an amazing job in keeping the fire away from Sun Lakes and protecting our homes. Thank you to all those responders. Speeding and NOT stopping at stop signs continue to be a problem in Sun Lakes. The Safety Advisory Committee continues to work with the Master Board, FirstService Residential, and Securitas in addressing these issues. The Committee has made recommendations to the Master Board regarding placement of new stop signs in our community. Securitas has been monitoring certain intersections to record and report vehicles who fail to stop at stop signs. This information is forwarded to the Master Board for further action and possible fines. Summer heat continues to intensify in our area and we must be prepared in the event of a power grid failure. This is especially urgent for residents on ventilators or oxygen. Contacting District Delegates or a neighbor for assistance in hooking up much needed medical equipment is an obvious priority. EPAP will continue to conduct emergency drills to ensure that residents are familiar with evacuation procedures and that Delegates are aware of residents using ventilators. Residents should update their emergency contact information so that there will be accurate communication during emergencies. Safely secure your homes and garages and remember to always be vigilant. If you see something suspicious call Banning PD, then follow up with a call to Securitas. Please comply with safe driving practices as you travel through Sun Lakes. Be observant of traffic signs. Be a defensive driver and travel safely. Update your emergency contact information. Let's all work together to make Sun Lakes as safe and as prepared as possible! Thank you. 18 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2023 | Safety Advisory Sun Lakes Committee Reports The Financial Advisory Committee supports the Board by analyzing financial information and providing recommendations that are intended to maintain and improve the performance of the community.
