Each month, we meet on the first Monday from 1 to 3 pm and the third Thursday from 3 to 5 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Do you have the next Great American Novel, a la Mark Twain or Harriet Beecher Stowe, in your head and want to get it written and read? Or are your literary leanings more toward a Shakespearian sonnet? Perhaps a delicate reflection a la Emily Dickinson or a stormy, husky, brawling poem a la Carl Sandburg? Possibly you yearn to write more in the counterculture vein of Jack Kerouac. Perhaps you are inspired by the likes of Arthur Conan Doyle to write a detective story. Maybe a collection of essays that would do justice to Emerson or Thoreau is just right for you, or perhaps something in the creepy and spooky genre of Edgar Allan Poe. How about song lyrics a la Bob Dylan, epic poetry in the fashion of e Rime of the Ancient Mariner, or even a full-length play? Will the world be enthralled by your autobiography? Or best of all, have you written something that shows your unique literary vision? If this piques your interest, or if you just want to hear what others have written, you are a perfect fit for the Sun Lakes Creative Writers club. We would love to have you share your work, be it a draft in progress or one ready for publication. You will find a non-critical audience who would be happy to provide feedback and be inspired by your work. We would love to have you drop by and take part in our discussions. Someone said this Fourth of July broke heat records. But the payoff was so much fun. This year our Art League Golf cart was a huge success. A special thanks to Judy Grant and Aurora Huesca, (in photo), plus Sue Langford and Shirley Anderson who worked so hard on decorating the Art League golf cart this year. Our Sun., Sept. 10 meeting will be at 2 pm in the South Clubhouse. Our special presenter will be Bhadraji "Bud" Jayatilaka. His classes will be Sept. 11, 18, and 25 from 9 am to 12 noon. Bud will give us a deep dive into watercolors. He has a unique talent for landscapes and animals in movement. Did you know that watercolor painting is one of the oldest mediums, dating back to the cave paintings of paleolithic Europe. It was also used by ancient Egyptians, Chinese, Japanese, and East Indian artists. Watercolor artists had to make their own paint from natural pigments and water. One site of particular significance, are the Chumash Cave paintings that are believed to date back to the 1600s, which are located in Santa Barbara, California. As always, as a true art fan, I sincerely invite everyone to visit and hopefully be part of the Art League as membership is welcome to all. We especially love our first-time guests. There is no charge or fee for our first-time guests. However, becoming a member of the Art League is only $20 for the entire year and allows you to get additional invitations to special private events and art classes perks. Art classes are held at the Main Clubhouse Arts & Crafts Room on designated Mondays from 9 am until noon. The cost for the additional art classes is $30 for Art League members and $35 for non-members. Did you know, some of the art pieces in the Sun Lakes Art Gallery hallway can be purchased? For any of these matters, call our very own Linda Grabler at (951) 524-0136. She's always happy to assist. ~ Claudia Ellis Art League Creative Writers
