40 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2023 | Karaoke Group If you are of the age that knows what a 78 RPM record is, then you may recall that before there was the record 33 1/3 RPM albums and 45 RPM records, there was the 78 RPM record. In my family, we had just a few of these fragile records that broke very easily because they were very heavy and brittle. Some of the records we had were Doris Day's e Honeymoon Express backed with e Glass Bottom Boat. We also had records by Joni James, My Love, My Love backed with You're Fooling Someone and one of our very favorites was Tony Bennett's Blue Velvet backed with Solitaire. Tony Bennett was one of the top pop artists of the 1950s. He recorded for Columbia records along with fellow recording artists Frank Sinatra, Doris Day, Rosemary Clooney, Guy Mitchell, Johnny Mathis, Frankie Laine, and Johnnie Ray, to name a few. We lost Tony Bennett on July 21. He had been touring the country with Lady Gaga. They were terrific together. Check out the way they do e Lady Is A Tramp on YouTube. It's really great! Below are some of Tony Bennett's best known hits. 1. I Le My Heart In San Francisco 2. Rags To Riches 3. Because Of You 4. I Wanna Be Around 5. e Good Life 6. is Is All I Ask 7. Cold Cold Heart 8. If I Ruled e World 9. Stranger In Paradise 10. For Once In My Life Tony Bennett will live on in our hearts and minds. He was a master of The Great American Songbook. This month you can join Barb Miller, Rosie Ingalls, and D.J. Blast, our Sun Lakes Goodtimes Karaoke group on Fri., Sept. 22 in the South Clubhouse.
