52 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | SEPTEMBER 2023 This is the perspective of the artist of the month, Claudette Harsany: "The truth and the stories we tell ourselves are not always the same. As a child I convinced myself I was only capable of simple math, so I skirted by without algebra or taking any higher math courses. I took Interior Design classes at Mt. SAC, and I excelled at all except for Perspective Drawing. It was too much like math. I loved Art Appreciation, but didn't take Applied Art. I had told myself and everyone who knew me, 'I can't draw!' After three years of COVID restrictions and wanting to protect myself by staying at home, I became too comfortable. I felt stuck, I wasn't growing or learning and I lost my enthusiasm. With the encouragement of a dear friend, I started walking again, reading mystery novels, and going to art class with her. Rob is a knowledgeable instructor. He challenges me to see shapes, angles, colors, and shadows. My classmates who are most accomplished are always ready to help me. Rob encourages all of us to express our individuality and to keep trying. So, at 75, I am finally drafting my own story and happy to say, 'I can draw!'" Classes are Mondays from 10 am to 12 pm and/or Wednesdays from 6 to 8 pm. There is a nominal $5 fee per person, per session. On June 30, some members enjoyed a great concert at the Redlands Bowl featuring Sail On, the most-booked Beach Boys tribute band in the world. The next evening, some of the Solos were enthralled by the San Bernardino Symphony's annual "America the Beautiful" concert under the stars on the football field at San Bernardino Valley College. July 5 found the Solos visiting the Southern California Railway Museum followed by a great lunch at Cactus Cantina afterwards. On July 10, the Solos took a day trip down to Little Italy in San Diego. Then Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was the destiny of some of the Solos who took the opportunity to escape the heat at the 2nd Street Cinema. Later in the month found the Solos grabbing breakfast at Carolyn's Cafe, which has become a favorite breakfast spot. We're up for almost anything. If you're single and would like to join us, we meet on the first Friday of each month at 6 pm in The Lodge Arts & Crafts Room.
